That is just about as far west as europe gets, ffs.

The point I was making is that, rather than being able to talk about the issues frankly like this, and how the patriarchal status quo we find ourselves in is the larger issue here, every single time instead the comments are full of jokes taking this to the extreme that effectively throw the baby out with the bath water.
Fair enough, though I personally think in general the community culture of casual shitposting coexisting alongside serious analysis and discourse is usually fine, even if things like this or the way some people use "volcel police" memes as a safe way to be horny on main toe the line a bit.
Like at no point am I even bringing up pedophilia
I will be fair and say that I've only seen that specific take once here, although some people were agreeing with it, and it's just so wild that it sticks out in my mind whenever this topic comes up now.
wonder if we're gonna get more comments complaining about the age of consent again this time
The only complaints about the age of consent I've ever seen in any of these threads are people either claiming that 18 is too low or asserting that a large age gap between adults is "literally pedophilia." The other side has just been a consistent "you have to trust adults to make these decisions for themselves instead of infantilizing them, even if a big age gap is sus."
And I mean I fundamentally dislike and distrust men in general and find the way they dehumanize, fetishize, and try to control women (or other men for that matter, because cis gay men--particularly richer ones--do it too) repulsive, but the counter to that isn't declaring that some adult women are literally children because they might hypothetically become the target of some creep's lust, it's giving women more agency, rights, and education and trying to prevent the actual power disparity in our patriarchal hellstate that heavily enables abusers to prey on women in general, not just younger women. Is a middle aged man specifically pursuing college students or recent college graduates a creep? Probably, especially if he's actively setting out to do it and it's not just some incidental meeting, and it probably ties into gross youth-fetishization aspects of our culture, but it's also not "literally pedophilia" nor can we can unilaterally say "actually this adult woman is not trusted to enter into this relationship for herself and so it must be prohibited on her behalf, as we have determined it's some percentage more likely to be an abusive relationship than the baseline chance of abuse that a closer-in-age relationship has, which is also sickeningly high because we live in a patriarchal hellstate that teaches men to prey on women and grooms women to submit to this."
I do not like the progression of time and would like it to stop.
That concept lives rent free in my head, not least of which because I see how it could actually be made to work: by layering the game space over three parallel settings--an idealized vision of a cozy small town, a dying rustbelt small town, and a neighborhood in a cyberpunk city--that the game just sort of flows between day-to-day without skipping a beat, with a protagonist that's just "what if Akko from LWA was a burnt out grad student with a substance abuse problem and a god complex," and also the cat smokes cigarettes and becomes your sidekick after the first act because it's the only other character that can see how completely fucked everything is. Just really lay on the tonal dissonance without acknowledging it while playing with themes of how the idealized past was also fucked, the hopelessness of decay, and the seeming absence of a future that's anything but an intensification of that hopelessness and decay.
So basically the exact opposite of what the pitch is intending.
and this type of generative AI will be sort of the speech component of the brain
This is my take as well. Like it's good at parsing and predicting text and could be an invaluable component of some more comprehensive sort of AI where it's serving as this translation layer between it and people. More broadly, the same math involved seems to be applicable for a broader set of data parsing tasks which is neat, like how machine learning is being used to create a sort of OCR for imaging systems that can penetrate into carbonized scrolls so it turns inscrutable charts that only a single digit number of people are capable of interpreting into images that a much larger number of grad students with the relevant language knowledge can study.
But "maybe if we keep making the language predictor bigger it'll eventually become god by correctly predicting all text all the time!" is an absurd dead end that's being hyped up by scammers.
- They died more and if anything was gonna make them sick they wouldn't have survived till old age so the survivorship bias is stronger.
It's sort of this, but also the fact that risk factors are probabilistic and there are, to put it bluntly, a very large number of people. Some might theoretically have a small mutation that makes their system more robust in some indefinable way, but mostly it's just a matter of there being so many people that some of them are going to win all the "risk of imminent death" dice rolls for a very long time.
Stable Diffusion 1.5 tended to produce sort of quasi-brushstrokes that look a lot like the shading in Arcane, but that's not what I think of when I think "obvious AI slop" anymore. Now the cliched AI look is either that shitty Pixar look or "what if hyper detailed mixed media Artstation concept art was even more uncanny and also had serious and obvious errors in its scene composition."
Liberals think that if you put enough intermediate steps and performative civility over the direct violence part that it stops being violence. So because the ships aren't being fired on with rockets or cannons if they try to go to Cuba, that's not violence. Instead if someone breaks the terms of the embargo while in the US they'll be arrested (which is violent, but liberals don't think it is), if a ship docks in Cuba it's barred from docking in the US for a long period of time (and if it tried it would presumably be impounded and its crew arrested, all of which involve violence or the threat of violence), if a company outside the US violates the embargo it gets blacklisted or sanctioned by the US (all of which is ultimately enforced by the US ability to enact violence), etc.
The capacity for violence is the foundational force of state and geopolitical hegemony, and every layer of power on top of it is backed up by the threat of violence or carried out by people who are under the threat of violence if they don't comply. Even things like fiat currency are basically just operating on the hegemonic violence standard: liberals think fiat currency runs on magical thinking and vibes, libertarians think it's fake altogether, and only occasionally will you see some honest admission that the US dollar (for example) is actually based on America's capacity to enact violence globally and domestically.
It makes more sense in the historical context: 4chan was incoherent libertine-slanted counter-culture shit for about the first decade of its existence. Like when I was in highschool all the queer theater kids and general outcasts were avid 4chan users, and while it was still awful then it's not like the mainstream norms of the time weren't as bad or worse. That's sort of what western counter-culture has been like, just a bunch of incoherent self-serving libertine shit that hated the establishment because the theocratic mainstream was getting in the way of their treats, and in general counter-culture is where new culture comes from even if it remains on the fringes itself.
The problem is incoherent self-serving libertinism has no real revolutionary or even progressive potential: where it pushes for liberation it does so because it wants to be free itself, and it is just as capable of being reactionary and chauvinist as it is anti-establishment when it inevitably comes to perceive the left as a bigger threat to its treats than the establishment. And that's what happened with 4chan and the broader counter cultural movement it was part of: the far-right propaganda funding temporarily shifted from theocracy to astroturfed fascism and it successfully convinced a whole bunch of self-serving chauvinist treatlads that the right was no longer coming for their treats but that women and minorities were, causing a schism where everyone in the sort of vaguely-left-by-american-standards counter culture either reformed and moved left or became a babytalking anime frog nazi, with only a few weirdo grifters like v**sh trying to keep the pre-gamergate chauvinist libertine sucdem counter culture alive.
But also there's the fact that people on 4chan were extremely terminally online and so just spread things by also posting aggressively everywhere else. It's like how r/chapotraphouse had a massively outsized presence on because we were all just terminally online and posted everywhere.
We didn't have images or embedding for like a good week after while the issue was fixed. IIRC the person responsible immediately confessed and wasn't punished for it, but I don't remember who it was.
*struggling to make a chatbot that works even a little bit, getting worried that the investors might pull the plug if it doesn't start making them money soon* Uh... uh.... uh... "oh no, I think I accidentally invented God and I am very afraid, this is very serious and dangerous for real!" phew that was close, the grift train chugs along for another day!
