EclecticIQ analysts identified a phishing campaign in late October 2024 targeting the telecommunications and financial sectors. Attackers leveraged Google Docs to deliver phishing links, redirecting victims to fake login pages hosted on Weebly - a legitimate, user-friendly website builder service. By using Google’s trusted domain for initial delivery, attackers bypassed standard email filters and endpoint protections, leveraging reputable platforms to evade detection and increase user trust.

The Justice Department today announced the seizure of PopeyeTools, an illicit website and marketplace dedicated to selling stolen credit cards and other tools for carrying out cybercrime and fraud, and unsealed criminal charges against three PopeyeTools administrators: Abdul Ghaffar, 25, of Pakistan; Abdul Sami, 35, of Pakistan; and Javed Mirza, 37, of Afghanistan.

ESET researchers have identified multiple samples of Linux backdoor, which we have named WolfsBane, that we attribute with high confidence to the Gelsemium advanced persistent threat (APT) group. This China-aligned threat actor has a known history dating back to 2014 and until now, there have been no public reports of Gelsemium using Linux malware. Additionally, we discovered another Linux backdoor, which we named FireWood. However, we cannot definitively link FireWood to other Gelsemium tools, and its presence in the analyzed archives might be coincidental. Thus, we attribute FireWood to Gelsemium with low confidence, considering it could be a tool shared among multiple China-aligned APT groups.

Abstract

: The increasing prevalence of disinformation has become a global challenge, exacerbated by the rapid dissemination of information in online environments. The present study conducts a bibliometric analysis of scholarly efforts made over time in the research papers associated with the disinformation field. Thus, this paper aims to understand and help combat disinformation by focusing on methodologies, datasets, and key metadata. Through a bibliometric approach, the study identifies leading authors, affiliations, and journals and examines collaboration networks in the field of disinformation. This analysis highlights the significant growth in research on disinformation, particularly in response to events such as the 2016 U.S. election, Brexit, and the COVID-19 pandemic, with an overall growth rate of 15.14% in the entire analyzed period.

The results of the analysis underscore the role of social media and artificial intelligence in the spread of disinformation, as well as the importance of fact-checking technologies. Findings reveal that the most prolific contributions come from universities in the United States of America (USA), the United Kingdom (UK), Spain, and other global institutions, with a notable increase in publications since 2018.

Through thematic maps, a keyword analysis, and collaboration networks, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the evolving field of disinformation research, offering valuable insights for future investigations and policy development.

Let me warn you first, your GPU might cause some issues with the distro.

Based on all the info you told me about the distro you want, I would recommend Opensuse Tumbleweed.

After installing you would just need to install Nvidia drivers and the codecs and you will be ready to go.

If you plan to use flatpacks for your media playing software and browser then you won't need codecs as it's included in the flatpacks.

Just don't forget to configure auto update and when you start installing at the final screen before clicking install make sure that ssh is disabled and selinux is enabled for extra security.

Extra notes:

  • The default browser is firefox, but it can be replaced with any other browser.

  • If you want a working office suite and you don't have high requirements, you can choose between Libre Office, Free office[Prop] or WPS office [Prop].

I hope you enjoy your time on linux.
