I don't know what caused it either. Maybe because I updated the app from the previous version?

Well, I have uninstalled the app and reinstalled it. The buttons are appearing just fine now.
Yes, 0.2.0 from Google play. When I said the buttons didn't appear, I meant in the feed, when I enter to see the comments the buttons are there.
It's working right now. I tried the same images and the viewer is opening just fine. Maybe because I cleared the app data and logged in again?

I didn't quit it completely but in the first place I was never addicted to it, I think I check my favourite subreddits once a month or so. Now I'm not using it that much mainly because the official Reddit app is garbage.
