I have a great seeding record, but cant find any private trackers to join....

Where do i start?

i only re-started my torrenting activities in the last few years since the streaming landscape has become a hellscape

The windsor-quebec corridor is dense enough

At least toronto-montreal. No excuse for that

I thought these dickheads were all about absolute free speech?

what a bunch of snowflakes

I'm in the same boat as you

Also, most of these replacement suggestion in this article and many others, are not FOSS

It's infuriating that we can give away $500M to car companies to immediately put shovels in the ground and then go bankrupt and run away with the money (see: Northvolt)

but with trains its always 5 years away, pending yet another feasability study and environmental impact report.....

Switch everything to FOSS

There, i just saved everyone billions

No tabs in the app drawer... just all your apps on one page and have to scroll all the way down to find wikipedia, for example

Drawer tabs is really what i want

Cant find any modern launcher with tabs

None of these are a good replacement for nova.

I've been using android since 2007. Nova allowed me to stick with the old school UI paradigm of dock and app drawer... nova was so good, that i set up my homescreen in 2013 and basically never touched the settings again until i migrated a new phone....

All these new launchers break my 20 yr old workflow... i dont like the "everything is a search bar" thing

if you choose to back up to your own storage, does it still cost $1.99?

i've been using android since 2007... and the home screen paradigm for me has always been a customizable dock at the bottom with an app drawer button in the middle, and multiple home screens with whatever widgets you want...

i've tried almost all the suggestions for a nova replacement and almost all of them break my workflow i've used for almost 20 years. it's very frustrating. it seems like the latest launchers fall into two camps....
"minimalist", no widgets, have to search everything with keyboard
"modern", takes a lot of cues from iOS on the home screen

that's the problem with finding a "nova replacement".... almost everyone's "nova" is completely different from each other.... does anyone have a suggestion for a launcher that carries on the old school android layout, but also FOSS? (GO launcher still maintains the old-school paradigm, but not FOSS)

"The Rant" guy is back. And this time, promoting Canada instead of sub-par beer.

Way better than the original rant.

Literally crying while watching this.

Fun fact: it's Jeff Douglas from CBC Radio

as the title says, i checked the "Open links in a new tab" option, but posts still open in the same tab. anyone else having this problem?

using firefox on debian linux, if that matters...

Another made in Canada brand goes down... Dont let them fool you with "Concu au Canada/Designed in Canada". No problem if you want to keep buying the brand, but if they dont drop the prices then dont pay "made in canada" prices for chinese made stuff.

Brands still made in canada (specifically QC): Quartz (only the winter coats) and Audvik

Has there been a major spike in user registrations or any other metric? I've never seen something "go viral" like this on lemmy before.

My niece has an old iphone with no SIM/phone number. Only wifi internet access.

Looking for an app for both of us to be able to chat

She cant chat with me over signal because no phonee number. She chats with the rest of the family over imessage, but i have an android phone

Is there an app available for both android and iphone to let me chat with her?

Thanks

Edit: willing to self-host for extra privacy. My nieces and nephews are all young children so i definitely want to encourage/educate them to get off corporate controlled communications channels

i guess i just experienced one of the biggest downsides to the fediverse that people have been talking about. instance suddenly disappeared with no warning. i guess i've lost my follow list

Everyone is getting jerked around by IBM and now Oracle adding to the drama

Meanwhile my servers are stable and debian development keeps quietly chugging along with minimal noise

Just wanted to say how much i love the debian project and all the contributors

People should recommend debian more

i installed debian with KDE for a friend years ago... is there a way to upgrade to bookworm using the "discover" GUI? or are they going to have to edit /etc/apt/sources.list?

not they they are incapable of doing something simple like this, but just wondering if there is a GUI method to do a full version upgrade

thanks
