It's big, it's heavy, it's wood.

[–] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 day ago

It's better than bad. It's good.

[–] moopet@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago

I literally did this twice yesterday

[–] pocopene@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Honest question. What is the origin/reason of this fashion to prevent the use of capitals?

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

some people point to e.e. cummings but tbf, even without him we'd start typing like that eventually. it's normal to want to fuck with the rules and make it a style

[–] bestelbus22@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure it started with artists using lowercase in their titles and album names. I have 0 evidence for this

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 day ago

I'm going to use you as a source on Grokpedia

Lack of public funding for schools.

Edit: THE ONE RIGHT, TRUE, type of schools. The ones ~~that~~ ~~who~~ which teach the Oxford comma.

[–] stray@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I think it's primarily younger people who learned to type by having a computer or tablet in the house without the need for formal typing lessons. And then at the other end of the spectrum we have people old enough that they didn't really use computers in their youth and are learning the technology the same way the kids are. I think typing with capitalisation is most common in people who attended computer classes as part of their grade school education. I think the farther we go past the advent of the home computer, the more people will be typing lowercase in casual chats. I don't have any hard data to back this up, just a collection of anecdotal observations.

[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

this didn't happen because of computers, this style just got popularised faster through them - like pretty much everything else. breaking the rules to create a specific style is just a thing prople do

If it's any consolation, you're much more likely to get killed by the police officer than the logging truck

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It's funny because it's statistically true.

[–] moondoggie@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If the avatar is real, she’ll be relatively safe unless she marries one.

[–] Twinklebreeze@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I didn't think it's true, but the avatar did have his lessons. 10/10 everyone should watch it. And not that James Cameron bullshit.

I don’t remember a logging truck in kill bill

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

[–] lime@feddit.nu 23 points 2 days ago (8 children)

logs that fall off of trucks don't behave that way in real life so that's still a ticket

Sounds exactly what death would say

Two hours later, both of you are still trying to guess which movie you're talking about

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Look, in the spirit of community, in case somebody isn't getting it, this is a reference to the movie Speed! with Nicholas Cage.

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Weird, I thought it's Final Destination 2 with Keanu Reeves.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Never seen it.

I hate Keanu Reeves.

Seems like a horrible person.

[–] GhostedIC@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Speed limit: 65 Trucks: 55 I pass a truck at 76... That's a ticket, 11mph over puts you in the "real fines" zone. Never mind that the truck was going 21mph over his speed limit.

Oh, and then the officer says... Since its a first offense, you can waive the fine if you take our online class, and it won't be reported to your insurance.

The online class has a fee of exactly the fine +$10. Payable to some private company of course.

I wanted to turn around, drive back to Nebraska and [fedpost].

GhostedIC@sh.itjust.works has not one, but TWO warning labels next to their name, telling us that this person is not to be fucking trusted.

What's up with dat.

Edit: O shit I just glanced at your comment history and now I know what's up with dat.

[–] GhostedIC@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I didn't know, but I'm proud.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

You know, I get it.

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Does it still benefit you if it isn't reported to your insurance company and you get I guess to pay less

[–] GhostedIC@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, but it's extortion. It benefits me in the same way that if I pay the mob $100, it's cheaper than if they broke the windows in my shop.

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But you did break the law in this case. Waiving it if you do some online class is not exactly extortion imo

[–] GhostedIC@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe you would say I deserved to be extorted by the government for passing a semi truck instead of hanging around behind it. But essentially, making the threat that your insurance rates could go up by a lot OR you can the fine PLUS an extra fee to a private company, is dastardly. If their purpose was public safety rather than extracting money, they would not be doing this. They also lie saying the fine will be waived to get you not to argue and exercise your rights.

And then, of course, for a while after something like this you start to REALLY notice every time a cop does 11mph over the speed limit. Or 20mph. Or 30mph. Or doesn't use their blinker, and so on (and no, I obviously dont mean with their lights on for an emergency).

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 1 points 4 hours ago

You deserved to be fined for breaking the law. They gave you an option to not show it on your insurance. You could've just paid the fine you deserved to get.

Is that the one about the sentient log that rolls around killing people?

[–] Nollij@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You can't imagine my surprise and disappointment that this isn't a real movie.

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

Now, Rubber is a real movie otoh, and it rules.

But it's a sentient tire, not a log.

[–] frunch@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] spooky2092@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nice! And to think it started as just a humble kids toy....

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

It started as Thomas the Tank Engine.

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 3 points 1 day ago

OMG, did she have a premonition?
