somebody must have said to refer to energy usage as electrons, because even lay people know energy is scarce, valuable, and crucial to human life/comfort while also having impacts on the environment if generated from certain sources.

energy usage has baggage. dad yelling about the power bill, "don't waste energy!" etc

using "electrons" is abstracted, because electrons are matter and matter can't be lost, really, right? so the supply must be infinite.

if he just said "our business model and heuristic for progress is converting large amounts of energy into faked videos of celebrities and chatbots for lonely people", the music would stop.

i´d face ridicule if i called power "electrons"

i´m an electrician...

what a pretentious asshole. just say it outright: you wanna fire up gas power plants to fuel your shitty server farms.

[–] Poof@hexbear.net 12 points 5 hours ago

He will figure out humans have electrons then the matrix begins

China spent the past five years building a massive semiconductor industry almost from scratch. The US spent it building a bunch of data centers that will all be shuttered once the AI bubble bursts.

[–] Drewfro66@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 2 hours ago

Upside - when the AI bubble bursts, GPUs will drop to like a tenth of their current price

[–] Elysia@hexbear.net 16 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

smuglord Who would want Chinese semiconductors if they don't have anything to conduct without American electrons?

[–] christian@hexbear.net 25 points 9 hours ago

I'm not convinced he knows what he's talking about. He completely glossed over the fact that the electrons need to be used in conjunction with a drawn reciprocation dingle-arm to reduce sinusoidal deplenaration.

[–] cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 11 hours ago

Holy crap anyone still for this shit can be safely shot on the head because they're not human and certainly not conscious.

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 25 points 11 hours ago

Looks like he was half right

[–] Strayce@lemmy.sdf.org 50 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

no yall still don't get it you can use multiple electrons on a single GPU so if you have one GPU and 3 electrons you can make 3 new bits

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 63 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Spoken like a man who has no fucking clue how electricity works

It's just the dumb version of bay area syncretism-talk.

You just kind if talk vaguely almost mystical about two 'different fields' of science. Its like two degrees off the babble parts of 'star trek'.

I extra hate it because I'm a thousand times better at it and will never get paid because I'm not a straight white cis dude who can suck fasch dick.

It's like reading "what if I were a dumb mother fucker conning the dumbest mother fuckers who have ever lived". He's not trying, he's not good at this, I hate it so much.

Gravitron neutrino slipstream processors are gonna solve this problem.

No, no. More like, and I havent done good drugs in weeks so forgive my ineptitude but without having a particular audience or concept in mind:

Information is physical⁰, and this leads to a neat little penumbra¹ at the boundaries¹ of consciousness², information³ and meaning² blur¹ to create⁴ a kind of meta-conceptual space⁵ where ideas are so real as to border² on solid¹³, and within this space we can achieve¹³⁴ a kind of godhood¹³⁴⁵, if we only have the wits²³⁵ and boldness³⁵ to reach for it.

⁰true science thing these people absolutely do not understand the implications of and I will later contradict

¹Transgressive, scary, unknown–deniable occulting woo-baiting, evades precise meaning and validates vague vibes-about-it, plus makes them feel like wizards

²usually-big word nobody in the room can tell me the meaning of, but we all agree is important/profound. Yes you can, but they can't and can't admit that.

³pointing at TV meme

⁴i identify as creating shit! I don't, but I identify as.

⁵bonus points: reinvent some widely-and-properly-regarded-as-stupid extremely discredited shit from midaevil thought, like uber for philosophy in that it gets around all the just and necessary restrictions on a thing by saying theres a computer involved, usually making it even more fucked than the original was before it was discredited/regulating. In this case; the pneuma

⁶now to drive it home; use this to validate a billionaire fascist or atrocity porn wet dream. Theres a points multiplier if you link it to SciFi from the 90s they absolutely did not understand and suggest building The Torment Nexus. You can never go wrong quoting gendo ikari!

[–] Krem@hexbear.net 12 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

i'll hire you for a grifting startup. we don't even need a service or product, just words on the wind.

can you do this expression while pacing around a stage as ambient music plays gendo-tent

[–] cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I would do hands clasped behind my back, which is held remarkably straight. And I'd go for some brooding modern chamber or dark post-rock.

[–] Krem@hexbear.net 3 points 5 hours ago

ah, the classic poignant "doodly doodly deedly deedly" soundtrack that means this is cutting edge stuff

[–] UmmmCheckPlease@hexbear.net 5 points 6 hours ago

God is in his heaven, all is right with the world, but we sure could use more electrons down here!

Lmao this made me realize that modern Genji would be hilarious- pitching the EVA program to politicians who have no idea what he’s talking about, only to have his funding pulled for [austerity, because he has a beard, hiring woke DEI scientists and security (read ‘women’), etc/latest fad]. Not the child labor - which NERV receives a tax break for - and don’t worry about their mental state, they have an employee assistance hotline they can call in the event of an existential crisis. Ultimately the NERV contract goes to a suspiciously well-connected son in law, who promises to “add more electrons to the primordial soup” to “boost synchronicity”; and recommends that the angels be used offensively to secure more oil.

No need for the "dicksucking" as a negative thing IMO

Sucking dicks isn't bad. I can do it, if there's someone I like.¹ I cannot however bear to suck fasch dick. Literally or figuratively, that just gets a nope from me.

¹n{t dicks plural at the same time, dont think I can do that, no moral qualms, just not good enough

[–] DogThatWentGorp@hexbear.net 38 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Wait he thinks 1 bit is 1 electron? Tech visionary Sam Altman is so ahead of the time on quantum computing he's forgotten it isn't mainstream yet.

Aspirational tbh

He's just saying that he's power limited in a cheeky way

Pretty sure there's a physical limit in there somewhere, and value is lost in the 'conversion' fromnelectron to bit, because physics.

is this a recession indicator

We've already been bailing out these morons for years

is this guy supposed to be some kind of genius because this sounds like a primary schooler that had their first science class and thinks they're smarter than the teacher

[–] jackmaoist@hexbear.net 24 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Cappies will see this and invest billions more into his company.

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 6 points 11 hours ago

It's the elon method

[–] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 16 points 13 hours ago

Honestly considering how stilted the conversation sounds I'm starting to understand how AI got to sounding like it does.

He's being a pretentious asshole, replace "electrons" with "electrical power" and it becomes coherent.

[–] Krem@hexbear.net 37 points 13 hours ago

guy in charge of rail infrastructure: "we need more Fe so we can make the rails train more. ideally, we could use Fe to convert train into distance. the more train you have, the greater the distance output. that's why we need all the Fe so we can train more rail
