Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org

Hey Merz, I found some welfare tourists you can deport!

[–] CAVOK@lemmy.world 64 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Foreign intelligence must be having the best day ever. Soldiers, with access to lots of interesting stuff, desperate for cash.

I'm not sure the US administration thought this one through properly. But at least they have that "warrior mindset" and no beards now. So that's good I suppose.

Considering that the US administration is an enemy of the US, vulnerabilities like this are either an intended part of their plan, or a happy accident.

They don't give a fuck about things like national security - that's only ever a front for some other flavor of evil.

That's a very interesting point.

I hope this angle gets media exposure

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

It won't. Considering you have the pApErS oF rEcOrD doing suck job ride alongs and news pieces of the gestapo roundups, access journalism means you go with what the administration wants so you can keep printing issues.

If they at least were a little bit fatter, they could last longer without food

Seriously. Worst time to have lost weight. Stabbed in the back.

Chuckles in β€œgreatest nation of the world feeds its soldiers with foreigners welfare”

[–] plyth@feddit.org 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Fourage, a tradition as old as time.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago (3 children)

US Failed state was not on my disaster bingo card.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Really? I thought that'd be the center square.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

My centre was Nazi Apocalypse.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Judges? Bing! Guess they're going to count it.

No it's there, labelled 'free space'.

[–] GenosseFlosse@feddit.org 4 points 2 days ago

It was just to obvious...

[–] PonyOfWar@pawb.social 81 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Guess they'll soon find out about the long waiting lists that German food banks usually have. They won't qualify for any German welfare payments either, so time for US soldiers to go begging in the streets I guess?

[–] ranzispa@mander.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

Hitmans will get cheaper in Germany.

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 59 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (4 children)

Sadly our cucked german politicians will instantly cave to Trump and just pay their food with german tax money. They should instead force the US soldiers to confront the reality that Trump is a fascist and promise them immunity if they are willing to defect from the US military in order to not starve.

[–] SaltSong@startrek.website 16 points 3 days ago

That might work for people with no families. There was a time in my life where I'd have cheerfully defected in exchange for citizenship and protection.

Today, I'd need that for myself and a few others.

[–] Taldan@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

At least Americans can empathize with that, as we watch Argentina and Israel get billions while our own food programs run out of money

[–] jenesaisquoi@feddit.org 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

cucked german politicians

What do you mean? Are German politicians' partners having affairs?

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 18 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Political affairs with the Trump regime maybe. Cucked as in they are letting foreign politicians fuck their own citizens lives. "Cucked" is often used outside of sexual settings whenever someone is letting others decide for them.

[–] jenesaisquoi@feddit.org 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Right so the population of every representative democracy is?

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sort of i guess, but i think there is a difference between the "cuckedness" of representative democracy and literally bought corrupt politicians.

[–] jenesaisquoi@feddit.org 3 points 3 days ago

I see! So the term is mostly meant to mean corrupt and spineless, right?

[–] Melchior@feddit.org -1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah cause having a bunch of starving foreign soldiers with nukes in your country is a great situation /s

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

The soldiers don't have nukes.

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Dont worry, accepting government aid from a eroupean country because some piss shit politicians wont fund their government will radicalize those guys forever.

And it wont be against germany...

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Ah, making other countries pay welfare for our people while our king builds a ballroom.

[–] MojoMcJojo@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It took me a few clicks and some depressing reading to find it.

That link brings you to this pdf

After reading through the sadly typical bureaucratic layers of Army, I finally found this:

Also, the richest nation in the world has a military so in need of SNAP benefits that it has an entire machine of paperwork in place to facilitate the distribution.

Ask yourself why.

[–] CucumberFetish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

They have removed this section from the document without updating the document version/date. The link in the page now points to this document: https://home.army.mil/bavaria/2617/6241/4675/ID-E_Furlough_Support_Programs_and_Resources_-_v6_update_4_NOV_2025_2.pdf

Note the "_2.pdf" in the end of the link

[–] MojoMcJojo@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago

Jesus fucking christ

[–] verdi@feddit.org 23 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Please remember the US voted against making food a human right in several UN votes.

Give the soldiers the option to either swear allegiance to the German government or deport them because they cannot sustain themselves in the country and are now, in fact, illegal migrants that tax the government and are an unacceptable burden upon the welfare state.

Anything less than this is backstabbing the German society to the banefit of the pedophile in chief of dumbfuckistan.

[–] You@feddit.org 28 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Someone at the army is on social media. The linked page is already altered and the segment about "Tafel" has been deleted.

It's (still?) here https://home.army.mil/bavaria/about/shutdown-guidance

or if that gets changed too: https://archive.is/e2hvc

[–] MojoMcJojo@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] You@feddit.org 6 points 2 days ago

So now, they just deleted "Die Tafel" from their list and put the other options into a PDF to hide them better?

Members of the US-Military wouldn't be elegible going by the rules of Tafel branches that I know of anyway (Tafel asks for "proof of need" in form of notices from social security agencies). But who thought this to be a good idea? This non-communication is making matters worse.

[–] JamieDub86@piefed.social 22 points 3 days ago (2 children)

How much of the USA military voted for Fart?

[–] MisterOwl@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

Exactly. They're in the 'find out' stage now.

[–] rbn@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 days ago

Question is how many of them do see Trump and his party at fault now and how many still blame the democrats, antifa etc.?
