Pretty bad planning and escape. But you can't fault the shot, the shot was well done.

I mean, the shot wasn't exactly a superhuman feat. The shooter was 130 something meters away, using a high quality rifle, firing a full power rifle round with a magnified optic. Well within reason. Our standards are just all mis-calibrated because of the two attempts to shoot trump being so silly. Thomas Crooks missed an absolute layup by throwing a bunch of fliers down range that hit all over the place, and the NAFO guy who tried to shoot trump on the golf course broke rule #1 of shooting from a concealed position; don't stick your barrel out the window (bush in this case).

Plus it's unlikely that he aimed for the neck, so he technically missed. A trained shooter would try to hit center of mass, but Tyler was a gamer so he may have been going for a head shot (which would have had some SOLID shock value, tbf). It was his grandfather's gun, not his, so he probably didn't know how it was zero'd and what the holdovers were. That plus his elevation above the target made it more of a lucky shot than anything, shooting down can drastically impact where the rounds will strike (typically hitting high).

Bullets aren't laser beams, they don't go in a perfect straight line exactly where you point them. They typically have a ballistic arc, or at the very least a drop due to the effects of gravity and air resistance on the bullet. That even goes for relatively high velocity, flat shooting cartridges like 30-06. It just so happens that 30-06 is a REAL potent cartridge, hence why it was used by the us military for so long and has remained a popular hunting round that people rely on to kill animals that are WAY bigger and tougher than your average Charlie Kirk.

I remember citing the fact that he hit the neck to my friend as a reason why it probably was an amateur. But wouldn't it have been ridiculous if the bullet had hit 2cm to the left and 4cm higher, like the-deserter's shot right through the mouth?

Oooh yeah, that would be a good one! I was thinking something along the lines of scooping the top of his head off above the eyebrows. That'd be messy for sure.

I saw a documentary called The Mystery of the Zapruder film recently, it was mostly an interview with Dino Brugione who worked at the National Photographic Interpretation Center and examined the Zapruder film the day after the assassination. One of his biggest points of contention with the authenticity of the version of the film that we're familiar with is the missing head explosion. He said JFK's head pretty much exploded into a 6-8 foot tall cloud, and that it was present on the original film he had seen on Nov 23-1963 but is notably absent from the subsequently shown version of the film.

So, yeah, a headshot would have been WAY messier and a lot more shocking than the relatively clean hole that was poked thru his neck. I guess that's just the result of the round hitting soft tissue and the force from the impact distributing itself instead. I am a little surprised there wasn't like a nasty exit wound, that's kinda what I would have expected but whatever.

with just a bit of climbing and some ingenuity, you could have a red crosshair in there in under a few minutes

Some restaurant near me has setup a shrine to Charlie Kirk which got in the national papers cause frothingfash folks were driving thousands of miles across the country to visit and the shopping mall has rebranded with Charlie Kirk memorial merchandise up and down the halls leading into the big box rifle store.

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

You should document this as an anthropology thing. It's a medieval shrine.

[–] 666@lemmygrad.ml 18 points 1 week ago

Please, I need a photo of this. I really need a photo of a mall-strip filled with Charlie Kirk memorial fronts leading down to a rifle store. That's some fucking divine irony especially because HE PROBABLY WOULD BE OKAY WITH IT.

Today I worked in a neighborhood where you would swear it was the week before his presidential election with all the yard signs.

I thought we were tapering off...
