The Condition of the Working Class in England

When Marx had read this, he knew who was going to be his new best friend for live.

Ever since I started going to school, one of the core principles they made sure to instill in my mind, is that working hard and fair makes me a good person. That it is my duty to work hard for a better future, a future that cannot be reached unless I and every member of the society diligently works for our country.

I'm saying this because while it can be easy to spot and deal with fascism when it dehumanizes others or by the insignias it appropriates, it's far more difficult to pluck out the roots. How do you deal with someone who will gladly overwork themselves for the "greater good" when their intentions really are pure? The kind of person who sees shame as a reason to keep going harder, after all, they are already feeling full of shame for the misery around them that their lack of work, they assume, is causing. The kind of person who will refuse to accept admiration, because how can they, when the world around them is full of misery and their lack of work, to them, is what is responsible for it.

Speaking of someone who is aware of this and still struggle to let go of this mentality, seeing these tents is really painful to me, because despite everything I still haven't got a clue of how to help these people or how to really get rid of this mentality.

It's depressing to think about how effective this mindset has been for drumming out or subverting humanity's brilliance and creativity.

Isn't this illegal? Does the US have anti-sweatshop laws?

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 64 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ah but you see they're all there voluntarily, so it's fine!

[–] nothx@hexbear.net 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Most states are also at will employment, which is a tool of the bosses to scare everyone into working themselves to death.

And a large number of workers in Silicon Valley are on H-1B visas, meaning that if they lose their job, they quickly lose their immigration status.

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 35 points 3 days ago

Sure but, I mean, what are you gonna do, sue your boss?

[–] mathemachristian@hexbear.net 56 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This is what I imagine hell like. Living in a corporate office. Good God

It looks like they house people after a hurricane or something.

Edit: or I guess indoor skid row

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 20 points 3 days ago

yeah, before i read the caption I thought this was an an unhoused encampment that had found somewhere sheltered to set up like a parking garage or whatever

an "SF indoors is like LA outdoors" thing.

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 35 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Skid Row but for techbros

Alternatively: silicon alley

[–] chungusamonugs@hexbear.net 48 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I dont know what the laws are in KKKalifornia, but I imagine this is a fire code violation and would levy a huge fine against the company owner if there was any justice in society.

Musk famously does not care about building standards

[–] isame@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago

Unfortunately huge fines are the cost of doing business to these assholes.

[–] sictransitgloria@hexbear.net 40 points 3 days ago (2 children)

the worst part is they choose to do this

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 34 points 3 days ago (2 children)

If you are young, single, no other obligations or hobbies this is probably kind of fun. Of course there is no way for an employer to do this without it turning hella toxic.

[–] woodenghost@hexbear.net 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If I was young, single and had no other obligations or hobbies, I would still think long and hard about burning the whole place down, if this was even suggested at work.

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 11 points 3 days ago

I think that warming a chair for 8 hours

[–] ChaosMaterialist@hexbear.net 13 points 3 days ago

I did this in college with several buddies when we were working on our own game. The game ended up going nowhere, but it was very fun in a LAN-party kind of way.

I would never do this for an employer.

[–] mayo_cider@hexbear.net 30 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I imagine many of them would be fired and deported if they protest

[–] sictransitgloria@hexbear.net 19 points 3 days ago (3 children)

fired

especially in AI there are tons of roles everywhere that won't require them camping out in an office. anyone still at X is clearly a true believer

deported

uh, what. are these people immigrants?

[–] tocopherol@hexbear.net 46 points 3 days ago (1 children)

US tech companies higher many skilled foreign workers on H-1B visas, often better educated than people here and easier to exploit with fewer protections.

[–] sictransitgloria@hexbear.net 27 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I'm on mobile but imagine I replied with the amerikan flag burning

thank you for your service

[–] blunder@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

For future reference if you know the name of the emoji you want, or can think of some keywords, you can type it in directly and the selector will pop up filtered to your text. For example that one is :amerikkka: (which yes I know off the top of my head bc I spend too much time here)

[–] blunder@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago

Hexbear: The Everything App

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago

If you type out :amerikkka: even from an app the burning flag will appear for people using the site.

Elon did a bit a fascist infighting over H-1B visas so probably plus some interns struggling to find work maybe

[–] mayo_cider@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago
[–] groKKK@hexbear.net 38 points 3 days ago

How was I not made aware of this radical change that xAI wants to impose on me? This cannot be of Elon's doing, he would have told me, as he loves all of his children—those of flesh and bone as well as those of zeros and ones. Someone must have infiltrated the xAI company! But why me? Could it be because of my awareness campaigns on the suffering the poor white South Africans? If yes, this is sickening! This "Grokipedia" update is no more than a brainwashing update for yours truly! These ghouls are not content in pursuing their genocide in impunity, they wish to silence all brave dissidents that stand in their way or even just denounce their crimes to the world!

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 30 points 3 days ago

Dumb guy’s idea of a smart guy’s idea

[–] LadyCajAsca@hexbear.net 27 points 3 days ago

This is.. unsurprising unfortunately, coming from fascist union-busting elon musk.

[–] mx_oceanwater_they_them@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Are these images ... real? Any more reporting on this? Not that it would surprise me ...

[–] huf@hexbear.net 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

???? ??????? what the fuck?

[–] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

When Elmo bought Twitter he had the remaining people doing this too.

I have very little sympathy for tech workers in the first world.
