Have there been cases where an actor or an actress dated a "normal" person – not even "rich", but like someone who's a relatively regular, normal, middle-class person?

I think Matt Damon’s wife was a waitress or bartender? They met while she was working

As a normal person, we have higher standards.

A lot of these replies are framing it as meeting someone out in the wild, but that’s not how most modern dating works. So, another reason why the pool is limited is that s lot of celebrities these days are on the dating app Raya.

There’s a strict application process where you have to demonstrate that you’re financially successful, physically attractive, and in some way notable. It started off exclusively as celebrities but now you can also get in if you’re, say, a c-suite executive at a large firm or own your own high-value tech firm. You also pretty much have to live in LA or New York if you want to match with anybody.

There are all kinds of rules, too. You’ll get banned for like if you take a screenshot in the app or publicly identify someone that you know is on the app. You’ll even get banned for publicly mentioning that the app exists too often.

Because of that it’s difficult to confirm who is on it, but it’s rumoured to be incredibly popular amongst celebrities. Keirnan Shipka in an interview once declared herself to be “Raya for life”.

These days most people meet people through dating apps. And the app that most celebrities are on is deliberately very exclusive, to the point where a middle-class person absolutely would not be allowed on it.

Yes, but not you

Does Dolly Parton and her husband count? They were married before she was famous, and he always stayed behind the scenes.

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 26 points 16 hours ago

Despite Joleen's attempts.

If you follow any tabloid or celebrity magazine, especially during award season, you’ll see celebrities that aren’t single but they don’t mention the person they came with. They simply aren’t that notable.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 21 points 18 hours ago

Or more likely, they don't want to be notable. Frequently they aren't in the entertainment industry themselves and just want to accompany the person they are with to their work function.

One of Liz Taylor’s husbands ran a construction company, I think? Can’t remember the details. There are a handful of current stars dating or married to people in finance. Amal Clooney wasn’t exactly “famous” before she got married.

It happens, but like any relationship, you have to run in similar circles in order to meet before any relationship can form.

Famous people tend to have somewhat closed circles around them because fans can be crazy.

It was shocking to us fans too, but also the most lana del rey thing she could have done too

Scrolling that site on mobile gave me cancer.

You'll get through this, you're a fighter

[–] makeshiftreaper@lemmy.world 9 points 17 hours ago

I'm going to be honest, I didn't even read it. I just clicked the first link that confirmed what I already knew

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

uBO saving the day but that page is still awful, just random shit at like 40pt font for no reason and large blocks where ads would be, then Google was like 'you wanna sign in?' like nah I've seen enough catastrophe for today

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

He's a hot, Louisiana swamp guide? I'd leave my wife for the female version! 😆

[–] Onyxonblack@lemmy.zip 13 points 17 hours ago (4 children)

Isn't Keanu with some non-descript old grey-haired Grannie? Not diggin nothing, that's cool!

He’s actually older than her by like a decade. He’s just a vampire who never ages, so he looks much younger than he is. He’s in his early 60’s, and she’s only like 52 or 53.

[–] starlinguk@lemmy.world 6 points 4 hours ago

If you weren't 'digging' why didn't you just say he's married to a non-famous lady instead of calling her a grannie?

[–] Zak@lemmy.world 36 points 16 hours ago (1 children)
[–] GreyEyedGhost@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 hours ago

I would have guessed her to be older than him, but at least part of that is the benefits of wealth on your physical health that she, as a regular person, wouldn't have had. Not that her being older than him is a big deal to me, anyway. Keanu has been through some shit and deserves some happiness in his life. I hope that includes her.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 19 points 16 hours ago

I think she's hot, but she ticks some boxes for me that are unusual for most guys.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 9 points 16 hours ago

It happens. There's not typically a lot of attention drawn to them because it doesn't sell tabloids to show pictures of normal people. But in all fairness to those that really don't, it's gotta be very hard for a few reasons. A) they don't spend a lot of time meeting and socializing with normal non-rich people by the nature of their work and the culture of their industry. B) It can also be challenging for anyone to deal with and relate to such different life styles and dynamics. Celebrity, wealth, public opinion... how does a working guy or gal deal with all of that from a significant other. Not easily, I'm sure. Especially if the relationship is new.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 8 points 16 hours ago

I've seen it occasionally where they'll marry a makeup artist or stage hand or something. Sir Patrick Stewart's wife is a theater actress, IIRC. But I can't think of many cases where some A-Lister married somebody they saw sticking shelves at the Walmart.

Far as I know, Snoop Dogg's been with his wife from long before he was famous, faithful the whole time. Ex-wife pointed that out 20-years ago, admired him for it. Looks like the same woman after all these years.

[–] dwindling7373@feddit.it 2 points 1 hour ago

faithful the whole time

Doubt.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 10 points 19 hours ago

Yes but they needed to be at least 24.

[–] helpImTrappedOnline@lemmy.world 6 points 17 hours ago

Plenty I'm sure, but its not as news worthy.

And part of its the social circle they are in. They work with other actors/actresses and their social circle is going to be limited due to the time/travel requirements of the job.
