You know who also abducted people randomly?

THE FUCKING NAZIS IN GERMANY!

But something like that would never happen in the Land of The Free and The Home of The Brave, right?

Yup! It was Pinochet's favorite thing.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

Mao and Pol Pot too!

I wondered why you had two downvotes, but then I remembered that tankies actually exist.

communities will develop their own street networks of journalism as they are needed. as it has always been, always shall it be. i lived in DC for 4 incredibly happy years and one incredibly mirerable one. the people of DC are diverse, and strong, with a sense of community that has held them together through many things. these ice kidnappings are an attack on that very social fabric. the white house is freaking because they know their attempt to break DC's spirit has failed. what opressors don't understand, what they'll never understand, is that we the people see ourselves as we the people. we don't just virtue signal that the way the plantation owners who founded this country did.

we hold these truths to be self evident: all humans are created equally with certain unalienable dignities. when in the course of human events these dignities are ignored, it no longer benefits the people to submit to the power of the status quo. if there is to be no benefit complying with the status quo, then we shan't.

I want to read a book in your diction. I greatly enjoyed reading this.

Also you're 100% correct.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 31 points 1 week ago (1 children)

if i do it will be titled

Assigned
Criminal
At
Birth:
Tales of persistence from the mountains of Appalachia

This title kinda slaps.

Set up some meshtastic nodes!

[–] whiwake@lemmy.cafe 94 points 1 week ago (9 children)

These smears have led to a 1,000% increase in assaults against our officers — including terrorist threats, vehicle attacks, and bounties on their heads.

Bullshit.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 49 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I saw somewhere (I think it was Some More News, but I'm not sure) that they reached "1000% increase in assaults against ICE" the following way:

Last year, there were 3 minor assaults on ICE thugs reported and this year, thanks in part to the new policy of classifying any reaction to their presence other than worshipful compliance as "assault", it's 32.

Even using THOSE methods, it's still only "assaults" REPORTED. As far as we know, there might be as few as zero of the "assaults" that are ever proven in a court of law, let alone one where the judge isn't a fascist-appointed hack that'll automatically side with the American SS.

[–] brygphilomena@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It's so disingenuous. Their employment is way up and their interactions with people, both those they are targeting and the general public are way up.

If I were literally any company, if I increased my workforce by over 1000% I'd expect anything happening to them to increase by at least 1000%.

I feel like they're stupid for exaggerating it that much because its hard not to balk at fucking 1000%. Like more people would probably believe it if they had said, even like, 319% or something.

And it just ruins their credibility further.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 6 points 1 week ago

That also means they have data for a base rate. How many brave and patriotic ICE agents are killed on the job every day?

I've seen them on TV and I'm pretty sure the leading cause of death must be cardiac arrest.

[–] whiwake@lemmy.cafe 6 points 1 week ago

I wish it would, but you know the blue lines people are clutching their pearls at 1000%

Can you imagine being an assassin and being asked to off ICE? That has to be the cheapest job going. Despite the fact they wear body armour, that's a pretty easy target to hit because bulletproof vests don't come in XXXL.

What are they doing, offering two for one offers. Or is it more of a pride thing and they're trying to work out how many they can take out with a single bullet.

[–] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Can you imagine being a citizen that carries a firearm, and seeing these people on the street trying to kidnap someone and not shooting them? I am shocked that this hasn't happened yet.

Obviously fake but I wish it wasn't, 1000% wouldn't be nearly enough

The GOP always projects what it wants and does.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

They went from like one hundred charges of assault against officers to like two hundred because of Trump deploying ICE to invade communities.

The problem with this is glaring. First of all they constantly lie, so tons of people are erroneously charged with assault and they are literally using military equipment to attack civilians. They are not the good guys by any stretch of imagination.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I wish the Democrats were half as cool as Republicans accuse them of being.

DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. “These smears have led to a 1,000% increase in assaults against our officers — including terrorist threats, vehicle attacks, and bounties on their heads.”

I'd love to see the data to back that up.

Also, we can do better. Why not a 10,000% increase? Or a 100,000% increase?

Like the man in the stall said to the guy waiting, "Gimme time baby, gimme time"

[–] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 week ago

Id love to see the names and badge numbers of those officers that were assaulted. Also the names and badges of those who witnessed it and any bodycam footage.

Hold onto those names and footage for charging them after the fascists fall and these people need to be held to account.

[–] theparadox@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (3 children)

An incredibly convenient property of small numbers is that if you add a small number to a very small number, the % increase is orders of magnitude larger than both numbers combined and that looks very impressive when you are pretending to do statistics.

I am freaking out. This is a rational response to random abductions.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 week ago

A more rational response would be about a dozen heavily armed individuals in every neighborhood on watch for kidnappers.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 43 points 1 week ago

If they haven't seen a lawyer or heard charges or been arraigned, it's a kidnapping by an unidentified masked vigilante.

Rats and roaches HATE the light, don't they?

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Excuse me. Rats are intelligent and can complete simple tasks.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 week ago

And roaches are a valuable part of the ecosystem

Oh fuck yeah. Am going to share this article.. We've got ICE scurrying around the area here where I live and when they sweep someone up and disapear them w/o letting friends and/or family know.. Yeah. Time to make a stink. I hope this keeps going and spreads across the country.

[–] spider@midwest.social 30 points 1 week ago

The Trump White House has condemned the campaign, calling it "dangerous" and "deceptive."

projecting as usual

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 23 points 1 week ago

Fucking love it.

This is a brilliant idea.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 23 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

ICE is not ‘kidnapping’ illegal aliens,”

"Aliens": dehumanizing is the first step.

"Not kidnapping": so the cases are traceable, the not-kidnapped healthy in body and spirit and the agent's are not anonym?

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 week ago

This is the way.

👏👏👏👏👏

Music to my ears

[–] grue@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

A 1000% increase from 0 is still 0. 😔

[–] whiwake@lemmy.cafe 15 points 1 week ago

The White House is definitely not freaking out

[–] derry@midwest.social 14 points 1 week ago

We stand with DC

[–] elbiter@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, signs. I bet the Gestapo is freaking out...

If everything we are seeing is true, then why o why are the police not doing anything? Anyone can put on a mask, and claim to be ICE. People need to start defending themselves. You might think your loved ones are in some ICE hell hole, but they could also be in some dungeon being gang raped by junkies for some sick cunts amusement. You all need to defend yourself. Demand that the police do their fucking jobs, and protect the citizens from kidnapping.

Go down to the station. DEMAND that they do their fucking jobs.

[–] roofTophopper@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This kind of stuff needs to be happening everywhere. While tame, I feel they are effective. Sure, there have been a few outbursts, but nothing on a deadly scale (that I've heard of). The protests, the recordings, the notifications are all good things, and it needs to continue.

What this administration is banking on, is that someone snaps and does commit a violent crime, or that a violent protest does break out so that they can finally implement their grand takeover scheme. They are trying so hard and lying every step of the way to write their own story on what's occurring. They know exactly what they are doing - attempting to find a fuse that they can light. They are not "freaking out".

People are pissed. Yelling, recording, using vulgar language aren't the best tools, but they are not acts of violence. We have to toe the line very carefully, but we also need to continue finding ways to make it known what is happening in cities and streets. The mainstream media isn't going to help. It doesn't matter what side they say they are on. If they truly cared, they'd be out there everyday because this shit is happening 24/7. It's up to the people to make it known.

We're aligned against the rich, the police, the military, the judges, Congress, the president, the (most influential American) priests, and the press. And every major social media platform. And the government is currently shut down.

And they need you to "be violent" so they can justify what comes next? If that's what they need, the violence will occur by hook or crook. Disasters are frequent, and none are being wasted.

It's past time for a prolonged general strike. Short of that, the only hope for a return to norms is a military coup, and even that is only a fool's hope.

[–] phx@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

They should add "and sent them to concentration camps"

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (3 children)

One of the unfortunate (planned) effects of ICE is they killing immigrant economies. I wonder if these signs will make that worse.

White house freaking out? Only because they want to use ICE to catch and jail the makers of the signs and can’t find them. It wouldn’t be because ICE are actually gestapo.
