MODERATORS

Donald Trump on Wednesday called for the imprisonment of Brandon Johnson, Chicago’s mayor, and JB Pritzker, the Illinois governor, accusing them of failing to protect US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) officers.

“Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers!” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday morning. “Governor Pritzker also!”

Both Johnson and Pritzker are Democrats.

Pritzker has the right response

I will not back down.

Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power.

What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?

His masked agents already are grabbing people off the street.

Separating children from their parents.

"Creating fear.

Taking people for “how they look.”

Making people feel they need to carry citizenship papers.

Invading our state with military troops.

Sending in war helicopters in the middle of the night.

Arresting elected officials asking questions.

We must all stand up and speak out.

Why would the mayor be responsible for protecting federal officers? Shouldn’t they be able to protect themselves? Seems like a poorly planned mission if they were hoping the local police would able to protect them. Also, they should have coordinated with local police if that was the plan.

It's literally illegal for them to help the feds with fed shit, per state law.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago

Put the whole damn state in jail!!!

Ye olde small government

Worse yet, ICE called in a complaint of reporters tampering with the lock to an ICE detention facility. They were just reporters. Wasting Chicago's resources.

They also pepper sprayed multiple CPD officers.

If they wanted help, maybe don’t pepper spray the people you want to help you. I know I wouldn’t respond to their calls knowing they could start throwing pepper spray grenades with no warning.

The federal officers have ACTUAL assault rifles in a city where most don’t carry.

What do they need protection from? They have the weapons…is that not, uh, protection?

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 week ago

Classic "both weak and strong" tactic. So weak they need the feds to protect them. So strong that it's a crime that they're not protecting the feds.

"Protect" = "swear fealty to."

I am calling for the jailing of the Traitor running our country.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 22 points 1 week ago

Will need to jail all the CEOs, ICE agents, Police, and administration that supports him as well. And unless the military generals suddenly have a reality check that's not happening peacefully.

So, yes, it's great to call for this but fascism will not give up power. It will not stop if Trump died tomorrow. We will not defeat it through the political process because they control that process and will not follow the law.

This is it. We are here. Protect yourself and your neighbors. If you're a part of the political process your goal is to delay at any point you can. That's all these judge rulings will do. They are good; but they will only delay. Stay safe, get organized, and help others.

Too soft, remember what the jan 6 riot wanted for the vp?

[–] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 37 points 1 week ago

Just totally normal president stuff, right conservatives?

[–] DreamAccountant@lemmy.world 26 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Opposite behavior of a democracy. Will people finally get it when they start jailing mayors and governors, just like they arrested representatives and aldermen trying to visit legal immigrants in the death camps?

Or somebody else could do something really really funny

[–] myfunnyaccountname@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 week ago

He doesn’t mean it. It’s just taken out of context. Now, him being a pedo isn’t taken out of context. But this totally is.

[–] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 week ago

This was all avoidable.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Felon, rapist, probable pedo, and literal traitor calling for others to be jailed.

Trump can call for going and fucking himself!

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

How many felonies have they committed?

[–] kikutwo@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

What's next, Jussie Smollett as Sheriff?

[–] newaccountwhodis@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Only after the fascists murdered Luxemburg and Liebknecht the workers realized they should have protected them. Political power comes from the barrel of a gun and without militias, democracy will die without as much as a struggle.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Well, this is what the second amendment is for.
