!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

there is somebody really annoying I have to see most days who doesn't know what boundaries are: always physically too close, always asking prying questions.

because at this point I have nothing to lose, next time he starts his spiel I'm going to start doing really ridiculous stuff, so maybe now he starts avoiding me. Think of:

answering his questions, but only using the syllable la, like lalala lalalalala lalalalalalala... pointing fingers and opening and closing my eyes.

gesticulating and waving my arms like I was possessed by the demon while barking like a dog.

describing in great detail how I like to have sex with several kinds of animals.

problem is, I laugh very easily when I do silly stuff like this and if I burst out laughing while doing it to him, he will think I was doing it to amuse him and keep approaching me.

so, how do I train not to laugh while doing really silly stuff?

Have you considered telling them that their behavior is making you uncomfortable?

I would personally refrain from all of your options as they make you look like you are certifiably nuts.

Better idea is to ask a question back. Do not yell it but just loud enough so others in the area can hear.

“Can I ask you something? How often do you shower?”

Then turn and walk away.

^^^^^ .. that might be a little harsh but you can adjust for your situation

Probably get a lot farther with deadpan sarcasm and some weaponized incompetence.

Practice. Every joke gets old eventually. Try out a few goofy moves and they won't feel as silly after a while.

I did it by promising myself I'd laugh about it later, and then hold it in and maintain a straight face.

Works pretty well, but you do end up getting funny looks when you're giggling to yourself out of nowhere when you think back about it.

Make laughter the ridiculous thing you do. Maybe start off with laughing at his intrusive questions as if he's making a combination joke/rhetorical question. As he keeps pushing, laugh more and more. At first it can be like you're laughing at a mildly-funny pun. The next time, consider it a funny joke. Maybe the next time, it's the funniest joke you've ever heard. Keep escalating until you're laughing maniacally every time he pries. Don't quit when he finally walks away. Follow him and laugh more and more annoyingly. Until he quits prying.
