Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Oh wow, DC, Memphis, Chicago… I REALLY do wonder what they have in common? Another economic anxiety moment I’m sure

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 30 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Tbf, they never actually got deployed in Chicago for whatever reason

[–] Cat_Daddy@hexbear.net 33 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Because the state government didn't let it happen, I'm guessing. DC doesn't have that protection, and Tennessee is fucking chud central.

I'm sure DC could have if bowser fought it, but she was doing that shit already for months without his need for approval.

testing the limits of presidential power

The fucking media.

"It's perfectly alright for him to do this twice, but if he does it a third time, that's downright unpresidential!"

He's still sticking to something resembling the law which is odd in a way. Why bother? He already violated it with LA. The liberals have all collectively bent the knee or committed mass suicide since January, so why bother pretending to care that the Illinois governor said "no." Yeah it would result if a possibly insane situation and "constitutional crisis" but is that not what these guys are purposely doing anyway? They're just breaking all the institutions without much of anything seemingly planned on the other side. Nothing beyond lofty meaningless rhetoric anyway. The dumbest thing possible.

[–] Pentacat@hexbear.net 18 points 3 days ago

All the institutions are dead, anyway. The liberals are stupid for even pretending they care anymore.

gotta turn the dial up slowly just for the thrill

turning a knob labeled authority looking back at the audience for approval like a contestant on The Price is Right

I think the simplest answer is just that they're a pack of grifters out to do as much graft as possible and get away with it, and understand that what they publicly do is just kayfabe albeit a brutal one that crushes the innocent beneath it constantly and by design. The may understand that just declaring "there's no law that says a president can't do crimes!" with a shit eating grin while their frenemies splutter in indignation and insist there is such a law may be working out for them so far but if they actually just ratchet up the violence then regardless of what their opponents do their own internal rivalries for position and graft opportunities are going to turn deadly and they'll get eaten alive by their own.

They seem earnestly terrified of the idea some of their would-be victims might fight back as well, but at least some of them have to be aware that it's their own followers who are doing all the violence and that there are these deep conflicts between their internal factions and bitter interpersonal rivalries between everyone with an ounce of power. Like if they set the standard of open roving death squads, then suddenly they've got to be worried about what their coworkers are going to do when there's an argument over who gets a specific share of the graft pie.

I moved from memphis a few months ago. I have a lot of friends there. It's pretty fucked and there's nothing I can do about it
