Mods take this down if it belongs in slop, the headline itself is already very inflammatory and bad journalism.

Authorities are investigating whether Tyler Robinson, suspected of killing Charlie Kirk, believed Kirk's views on gender identity were "hateful" to people like Robinson's transgender roommate, six sources familiar with the case tell Axios.

Why it matters: Investigators believe Robinson's anger at Kirk's views could be a key to establishing a motive for the slaying of the controversial activist whose death sent shockwaves through American politics.

Each of the six sources familiar with the investigation told Axios that investigators believe Robinson had a romantic relationship with his roommate.

Zoom in: Axios' sources said investigators initially wanted the information about the roommate's gender identity kept quiet because that person is being "extremely cooperative" with authorities.

The roommate was "aghast" at the slaying when speaking to investigators and shared electronic messages sent by Robinson, one of the sources said.

"That's what happened? Oh my God, no," the roommate said, according to the source. "Here are all the messages."

The phone messages indicated a sender listed as "Tyler" had mentioned that after the shooting, he had wrapped his rifle in a towel and stashed it in some bushes near Utah Valley University, where the shooting occurred, Gov. Spencer Cox said Friday during a news conference.

"Tyler" also told the roommate in writing that the rifle would have to be retrieved, Cox said.

Between the lines: Federal and state law enforcement officials also are examining leftist groups in Utah to see whether they had knowledge of the alleged shooter's plans beforehand, or if they lent material support to him afterward.

One of those groups eliminated its social media profile after the shooting, Axios has learned.

The motive and political ideology of Robinson, 22, are subjects of intense online debate. Some conservatives have insisted he's an unhinged leftist. Liberals have pushed back by pointing to Robinson's conservative upbringing in Utah.

In a Daily Mail interview Friday, family matriarch Debbie Robinson said the family supports President Trump's MAGA movement.

"Most of my family members are Republican, she said. "I don't know any single one who's a Democrat."

Family members have told reporters that Tyler Robinson had become "more political" in recent years, and had expressed interest in Kirk's visit to the Utah Valley campus in Orem, Utah.

Cox said a Robinson family member had told investigators that the accused shooter recently had a conversation in which someone said Kirk "was spreading hate and was full of hate." But it was unclear from Cox's remarks who actually made that statement.

LGBTQ activists have criticized media outlets for erroneously reporting in the hours after the shooting that a bullet casing from the scene included a message related to transgender people.

Zoom out: Kirk, who toured college campuses and challenged progressive students to debate him under a tent that said "Prove Me Wrong," was an outspoken opponent of gender-affirming surgeries for minors and transgender athletes competing in women's sports. What they're saying: "It's pretty clear that Robinson's roommate knew a lot and didn't say anything after the killing, so they're a person of interest officially and are cooperating," a second official said. "We want to keep it that way."

"What we want to know is if anyone else had knowledge [of the shooting], before or after," that source said.

media is just absolute dogshit, deliberately limiting what they say about his views on trans people to the two things that poll well in the mainstream (the former being made up nonsense and the latter being deeply misunderstood and so rare as to be irrelevant notwithstanding)

His roommate is irrelevant.

Dude was a groyper and anyone pretending otherwise is lying.

Many groypers, for the record, fall under LGBTQ. They might be closeted, they might be self-hating, they might be straight men chasing, whatever the case, they're still groyped up.

Exactly. What we're seeing here is the clumsy attempts to build a parallel version of his motives and politics in order to get the outcome they want and crackdown further on the left and further vilify trans people.

His roommate needs to stop talking to the cops and lawyer up fast. The authorities are clearly entrapping them in order to get them to say what they want them to.

Assuming this is all true. A trans person literally helped catch the charlie Kirk shooter, and the entire mainstream media all trying to make them a patsy is how they get repaid?

For any lurkers here, you will never be “one of the good ones”.

It's pretty rough that the only indication he's a groyper are either things that you have to be very online to know about, like the meta-ironically repurposed antifascist memes, or super contextual like the fact the FBI themselves aren't releasing information about his ideology (when they obviously would be if he was in leftist circles online).

[–] Justice@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If they released his browsing habits it would make things very clear.

Kash isn't that much older than me and he's definitely a terminally online creature himself. He knows exactly what's going on and he's purposely going to make sure that a major part of all of this is "trans ideology." Even if that never comes into play legally, he wants to make sure that's the media cycle.

He's a disgusting sad little man. That's why he got the job...

CHUDs. Willing to literally ruin their own lives and slaughter their friends solely just to frame a media narrative to further a genocide. And why do they do this? Literally no reason except “it’s funny”.

Something something enemies ontologically evil bateman-ontological

my understanding is the police aren't EVER your friend - they are there to incriminate you, i don't think lance twiggs knows that they should shut up and get a lawyer

So much for “you have the right to remain silent.”

[–] CrawlMarks@hexbear.net 26 points 3 days ago

A trans person once stepped on his shadow and thus it is the fault of whatever.

It is safe to blame trans people because they don't shoot anyone. I am not saying to get those nymumbers upset following the rules appears to make you safe to scapegoat. Become ungovernable or whatever

Each of the six sources familiar with the investigation told Axios that investigators believe Robinson had a romantic relationship with his roommate.

So six sources heard it from the same source? Am I reading that right? That isn't very convincing, especially after they've already been caught in a lie about the casings.

This is a good post that covers the other issues with this: https://xcancel.com/adamscochran/status/1966934326404378701#m

And if the roommate was trans, what does that prove exactly? If this supposedly trans roommate is cooperating, then why would you blame trans people anyways? Even if you take them at their word, it doesn't really make much sense.

EDIT: Something else I caught in the Daily Mail article about this:

A source told Fox News: 'The shooter was living with a transgender man who was transitioning from male to female.

'The status of their relationship isn't known. They were friends who enjoyed playing video games together.

'The transgender individual is co-operating fully with police and is not considered a suspect.'

So again, if the roommate really is trans I don't see how that's important... But Axios' source says they are lovers? Why would the same source say two different things to two different outlets? Seems pretty sus.

[–] mickey@hexbear.net 19 points 3 days ago

No no you don't understand, we heard the same rumor 6 times and they all heard it from the same source, so we are very serious journalists who can report we're hearing it from multiple sources.

I'm not even dismissing that the roommate could've known more than they should've, but the way the fuzz is trying to make this fit a narrative is so obvious and so heinously directed at scapegoating a GSM group, it's appaling.

Also the bit about going after other leftist groups, yeah freakin' right, the powers that be would love it that were the case, but no freakin' shot.

The sources were told shit BY THE INVESTIGATORS!

I'm glad this stuff is getting reported on. The govt has a vendetta against left wing groups. I'm sure they're itching to attack left wing orgs further, especially in Mormonsville.

[–] Justice@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 3 days ago

I'd love to know what "leftist groups" they even managed to find in fucking Utah, lmfao. The one person with a Biden 2020 sticker still on his truck. "That's one of them goddamn commies right there!"

>tfw you wake up to frantic texts from your roomate that he stored a gun in the woods and you turn on TV and charlie kirk is dead

"Well we were pretty hard on him for not taking out the trash."
