Many international competitions, such as international swing dancing, in the US have been postponed. Many international competitors don't feel welcomed. Many organisers consider moving competitions to overseas.

We closed our own door. There is not a single one country can thrive without international trade. They are not coming back to the US

May?

It's going to last for a long fuckin time. Years. If we're lucky.

Did they expect the world to be as riddled with dementia as Trump voters are?

[–] CatDogL0ver@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yes, Australia. Have you watched Sky News (Fox news sister station in Australia)?

They constantly quote each other as " international news source" to bypass the responsibility of backing up their claims. The anti immigrant sentiment is rapid.

Australians are eating it all up.

Marine Le Pen was projected to win the election in a few years. They run the same racist campaign in France.

England was that way until Trump scared the shit out of the Brits with tarrifs.

Don't forget Brazil and Philippine.

The whole world is getting radical.

Those who bought flight tickets will still come. Next year, they probably will go to Canada. Canada is close enough to enjoy the north America culture without the prejudice

[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago

Hahaha, "May". No this is the beginning of the end for America. Travel is ruined, inflation is sky high, no one is safe from being kidnapped, and no jobs are available.

Why would ANYONE want to travel to the US anymore? So many other cheaper, nicer, and safer places to stay where you are actually free and not surrounded by a police state.

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 94 points 2 days ago (10 children)

As a Canadian - not going back to the US for the far foreseeable future. This isn't a "after next election" fix. There's a deep cultural issue that needs to be fixed before I care to spend my money there again.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 39 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As an American, please don't. Our country is a dumpster fire, and I'm urging everyone to....ya know.....NEVER COME HERE!!! Seriously guys. It's bad. You're not safe here. Please don't put yourself in harms way.

Also......can't help but notice that you're Canadian. Mind if I stay on your couch for the next 60 years?

[–] RustyShackleford@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Can i sleep on the other side, like Charlie’s grandparents did in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

[–] steal_your_face@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Idk depends how stinky your feet are

[–] RustyShackleford@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

My feet aren’t stinky, but they can be dry in the winter time.

[–] Eq0@literature.cafe 23 points 2 days ago

European in an international field here. I usually travel to US for work once every year or so but told my boss I am not willing to - his answer? “Well, me neither, you are good”

That culture is bleeding in to yours. Prepare yourself mentally, best of luck, and be safe!

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 days ago

As an American, there's a deep cultural issue that needs to be fixed in order for the country to survive.

Yup. Even if we eek out a miracle and elect a majority Democratic House and/or Senate we still have a Dictator in the Whitehouse and his admin has sprinkled loyalists all over the country. It will take decades to root out most of the fascists (some were probably there way before Trump ran the first time).

Local school is still going ahead with their class trip to US because they booked it before the shitstain got elected. They're crazy - half the kids are brown and some are clearly 🌈 so I wish them the best but can't imagine it'll be flawless. They're not planning another one though obviously.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 31 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I have lived in the US, and have very dear friends there. I wanted to go visit, with my young adult kids, who have never been to the US. Now I must wait until things normalize.

Even though I'm standard European white, and my kids are blond and "dark" redhead; paper white, freckles etc. and we'd have less chance of being profiled, there have been instances of western tourists held for weeks, so no. Plenty of world to see for now.

It is not safe here. Stay away be be glad you have a choice. Do not come here.

[–] CatDogL0ver@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, there are instances Canadians and Australians were detained because they openingly voiced their opinions about Trump online.

Land of the free?

Whoever told you that is your enemy!

[–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

“May”? — Please tell me what indicator they saw that would signal things would improve? That’s the laughable part. The World Cup is gonna be a shit show that they’ll practically have to give tickets away to at this rate.

[–] LoafedBurrito@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

I'm actually kind of excited to see the trump administration RUIN one of the best things to come to the US. FIFA will never come back here after the insanity that is about to go down. So many innocent people will be kidnapped by ICE for attending, so why even go?

It’s just getting started

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, don't fucking come here. Not now, not in the future. We can't be trusted again for a very long time - longer than just an election or two.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 days ago

We’re very very sorry. But yeah, stay away for your own good.

my daughter and grandson live in the US. i’m thinking i wont see them for a while. She believes (greencard) she will be refused reentry so is frightened of leaving

[–] CatDogL0ver@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

If she has any prior, she would get denied returning to the US. Remind your son in law who to vote next time

[–] UncleArthur@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm just one retired bloke from the UK so hardly representative, but my wife and I were planning a visit to New England next year which has now been binned for the foreseeable future. Canada is looking favourite at the moment.

[–] lost_faith@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Our east coast is absolutely beautiful, P.E.I., Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland all amazing places to visit

[–] UncleArthur@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Indeed! Especially as I have relatives living there, who I've never met.

No caption needed. That's just a picture of what happens in America. The only country where it's popular to shoot your problems as an early option.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think the saying “Shoot first, and ask questions later” originated here, did it not?

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

I could try asking someone, but they're unlikely to answer me after I start shooting.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As a US citizen...

Do. Not. Come. Here.

It is a dumpster fire and it is unsafe.

[–] chaosCruiser 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

What about people who enjoy extreme sports and visiting dangerous places? You know like, people who visit war zones and tyranical dictatorships? I think USA might make it to the top ten along with Palestine, Afghanistan and North Korea.

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Mfw I see news about murica:

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'd say it's likely to get worse. Lots of people with forward bookings likely kept them as they would lose their money otherwise. They likely won't have that cohort of now-unwilling tourists next year.

[–] The_v@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This year the business devoted to tourism willl struggle. Next year the will start to go under. The year after that is when things get really ugly.

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago

Likely some will go under this year. If enough go under, there's enough tourists to support the others. The longer they last, the more the others struggle. Catch 22.

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 2 days ago

To all foreigners, do not come here. Not bc we don't love you, but bc FUCK OUR GOVERNMENT AND ICE!

[–] forrgott@lemmy.zip 16 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Expert you say? And these experts can only confirm this might happen?

Oof

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago

Yes, just like the IT experts at DODGE, they lack any real experience.

I transited through LA once on my way to Canada over 10 years ago now. That 5 hour experience alone was enough to make me say I don't ever want to even fly through this shit hole again, let alone leave the airport and visit the country as a whole.

I can only imagine how much worse it is now with all this vile bullshit going on.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sounds like a transit can last a few weeks now

[–] azimir@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago

"Welcome to the Hotel California" is now "Welcome to the Hotel El Salvador torture jail"
