A coalition of media companies and Egyptian authorities announced Wednesday that they’d taken down live sports-focused piracy network Streameast, which they said had hosted 1.6 billion visits across 80 associated domains over the past year.

They’re tripping if they think I’m going to pay. I’ll just follow updates online before I pay to watch. Fucking MLS is $15 a month, MLS. The retirement league is $15 a month. Their hubris has no end. They get enough money from advertising that they could air the games for free but greed is all they hear.

RIP legend. StreamEast got me through 3 hockey seasons with little to no issues.

I've said it so many times: Offer me a legal season-long package for ONE team that includes all games priced around $100 and I'd instantly sign up. I don't want to jackass around with blackouts, 6 different apps / subscriptions, or pay an insanely-high amount of money to watch the whole league when I just want to follow my team.

The problem is that the sports industry has been propped up for decades with cable, where every subscriber paid fees for sports whether they cared about it or not. If they charged a reasonable price to just the people who care, it'd be a devastating loss. And cable was structured the way it was because that's what made the most money, and though cable's slowly being replaced by streaming, don't be shocked when the streaming landscape starts to take on a similar shape. There's already lots of bundling going on, remember when streaming meant that you could save a ton of money by just paying for what you wanted? They're going to do whatever they can to keep the revenue from falling.

But their revenue must fall, by any means.

It’s even worse for NBA basketball. You can pay for the entire league and it’s not too expensive, but they specifically black out the local or neighboring team. So you have to pay to watch every team except your own. It’s honestly completely absurd.

Sports fans are the most owned little bitches, i fucking swear. Every time i hear about this shit my brain lights up with irrational sadistic glee.

I dont even hate sports, i dont know why i feel this. Maybe its the oft neglected bully lobe of my brain seeing such an easy eager-to-be-abused target.

Best I can do is half the games spread over 4 streaming services.

OR what if we just punish and make it more miserable until you're resigned to failure and have to pay us for a whole-league package you won't use?

they did it they saved sports

sportsurge.net has always been a good site for me

[–] Rustan@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 days ago

http://www.fawanews.sc/ has been my goto. Streaming quality isn't the best though.

Oh so they're offering a competitive way for me to watch hockey now? Because the last time I looked, it was either an absurdly expensive cable TV stuff with a bunch of stuff I'd never need, or an absurdly expensive per-game PPV fee.

Jokes on yahoo...... streameast is far from being down.

[–] highduc@lemmy.ml 14 points 4 days ago

Ah so that's why it wasn't working over the weekend. Shame to see it go. Rip!

Interesting quote at the bottom of the article:

A 2023 study found that 11% of U.S. adults (roughly 23 million) pirated content in the previous year. The NFL says it does not track illegal viewership of its games, though the league believes that new legal avenues to consume its broadcasts—such as direct-to-consumer streaming services, in addition to traditional TV packages—are lowering the reliance on unauthorized methods.

I can't decide if 11% is higher or lower than I expected, but also insightful that the NFL in particular doesn't seem to think this affects their bottom line much? Hard to believe since a sports streaming package can easily be triple digits and only go up year after year.

Remember though just because the organization doesnt think it hits their bottom line it doesn't mean their legal department will treat it as such.

Those corporate lawyers need to prove to themselves that they aren't just a bullshit job

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

By punishing innocent people and ruining nice things! Fuck yeah! Which by graeber's taxonomy is not a bullshit job tbf.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

It doesn't affect their bottom line because they just keep raising the price so the bottom line stays the same.

Anyone know a way I'll be able to watch streams of NHL games after they're finished? I'm in the UK and can't realistically watch games that start at 3am. Waiting to see the inevitable price rise now that nhl.tv is going to dazn and I miss the days of Lazyman.

[–] BurgerBaron@piefed.social 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

sport-video.org.ua or optionally you can use Stremio with the MediaFusion addon which sources VOD torrents from them.

[–] turkalino@lemmy.yachts 4 points 3 days ago

Sport-video is fantastic. Sucks that the creator got drafted to fight for Ukraine but his wife has been doing a great job running the site

[–] Banzai51@midwest.social 3 points 4 days ago

I went the IPTV route for football season and likely will be rolling that into hockey as well.

[–] MacStainless@piefed.social 2 points 4 days ago

66 I think has replays on its paid tier.
