We have an army for fighting as well as an army for labour. For fighting, we have the Eighth Route and New Fourth Armies but even they do a dual job, warfare and production. With these two kinds of armies, and with a fighting army skilled in these two tasks and in mass work, we can overcome our difficulties and defeat Japanese imperialism.

I often think we should have a government office whose structure may be military like but they just go around doing everything that needs done. Like we pay people to sit around bases and occasionally push a button to blow up weddings. Why the fuck can't they be paid to fill in potholes, fix bridges, make trails, etc.

That would be communism tho

Bruh the fucking Roman Empire had their Legionnaires build roads and shit while being nearly as belligerent as America because it's better to use fit healthy men on a government payroll than let them fuck around. Capitalism is uniquely evil since it's a continuation of feudalism.

You are describing the national parks service

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Literally just send the military imo

[–] NinaPasadena@hexbear.net 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ya I mean literally. You got all these dudes just vibing waiting to vaporize some brown people... Could we like have them build roads instead? No?

Oh

Ok

Tactically ascertained and apprehended the aluminum can for recycling

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

My region, a couple years back, put out PSAs to get people to return their empties to the Bottle Depots that were a weird mix of old WWII homefront "do your part" posters asking people to collect certain household trash and grow Victory Gardens, and modern spy film tropes. Sounded a lot like that statement. Utterly ridiculous, but if it got even one more bottle or can properly recycled, I'm happy they did it.

This would be amazing, and sooo much cheaper than deploying the NG for those purposes.

If there's a way to wind down the US empire, it probably involves doing something like this

Like 80% of the bridges in the country are in critical condition or something. Go have them hold them up

[–] oscardejarjayes@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

Harper O'Connor gave a CCCRU talk about exactly that, it's the newest video on his channel

You might be surprised how often the US military is just wandering around picking up trash, sweeping sidewalks, etc. They'll have battalions out cutting grass with a folding shovel and then the next day contractors show up with lawnmowers.

There's even a word for this kind of shit that I can't remember. I used to work in a restaurant on a base and watched this shit all the time

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 37 points 3 days ago (1 children)

There is essentially nothing you could write after this line that I would be genuinely surprised about.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago

You might be surprised how often the US military is comprised of 3 children in a trench coat

Marines call it "weenie fuck-fuck" work, IIRC

Air Force refers to it officially as "details"

Really true to form, it sounds exactly like something a toddler would come up with after learning the word fuck

Making the low-ranking grunts do menial labor is just a thing in the military. Not even as punishment necessarily but also as busywork.

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago

conditioning too, gotta learn to do anything for as long as told whenever told

If they really wanted to gather the trash they'd get in the bag themselves

The juxtaposition of soldiers in camo uniforms wearing orange safety vests is damn near surreal.

[–] cypherpunks@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago

also, that two of them are holding their vests instead of wearing them 😂

This is how Trump will solve the migrant worker shortage on farms

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 47 points 3 days ago (7 children)

Imagine joining the military and they make you farm. Literally reverse levies

Signing up to defend America in an emergency and being told you have to leave your normal job and family to go pick berries wearing a plate carrier and carrying a rifle in 98F and 87% humidity

>Deployed to a farm

>They make you use your truck off road and for hauling

>Wife still cheats on you with Jody despite being 40 miles away

The American Dream, shattered

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 14 points 3 days ago

Half the military would be out on a medical discharge within a month

The US military literally doesn't have the BACK to pull it off, hundreds of thousands of spines are barely hanging on to begin with

I hate that "let's spend some wasted military man hours on cleanup and infrastructure" is considered Maoism and not just a good and sensible idea.

[–] CoolerOpposide@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Things can be Maoism and a good idea simultaneously. This is neither tho

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

Absolutely, I'm just having fun here. But yes, as a leftist who is not a Maoist myself but also not fond of sectarianism, I do believe you are correct that something being a Maoist tactic or methodology and being a good idea are not mutually exclusive.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Are we witnessing his turn to Maoism? /s

maybe newsom's team was on to something when they posted trump in front of a hammer and sickle
