We have an army for fighting as well as an army for labour. For fighting, we have the Eighth Route and New Fourth Armies but even they do a dual job, warfare and production. Absolutely, I'm just having fun here. But yes, as a leftist who is not a Maoist myself but also not fond of sectarianism, I do believe you are correct that something being a Maoist tactic or methodology and being a good idea are not mutually exclusive.
