I made an alt account for when I actually need to use reddit to ask something in a hobby group that I used to participate in, but I no longer participate in reddit overall, comment or contribute in the groups I formerly patronized. Just noticed that today’s my cake day here - the day I left reddit.

[–] Pudutr0n@feddit.cl 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Happy cake day! Hope you're liking it here. :)

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thanks! Yes, I’m not going anywhere. Hope to see the fediverse grow smartly.

I would like to fully move over, but unfortunately most of my hobbies and things I'm into just don't have a large enough audience to have an active designated group for.

There's a Dead by Daylight one on here, but the last post was like a few months ago, and then after that almost a year. I'm also super into modded minecraft, but all those ones are botted reddit repost rippers. I haven't looked yet, but I heavily doubt Hypixel SkyBlock is gonna show up.

Unfortunately, my lust to see idiots make a fool of themselves in public spaces is too strong to keep me away from reddit, and therefore, I become the fool.

[–] Pudutr0n@feddit.cl 1 points 1 day ago

I feel that. And I mean, sure, those communities don't exist... yet.. But maybe someone could create them and see who shows up. ;)

Like, 30 minutes in. So far the front page is a breath of fresh air. Reddit is unusable as of a few months ago. Just trash on top of trash.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Just trash on top of trash.

I like being included 🥲

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Reddit has been shit for like 5+ years at that larger levels, but some small niche hobby and similar subs are still decent.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

until some weirdo mod joins the sub and decides to ban you for posts you made elsewhere 5 years ago

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

The mods just do great work in some subs, but completely destroy others. I got banned overall for posting facts in conservative subs...

But I don't think lemmy fixes that since it has the same mod/channel structure. The nice thing is that advertisers and nefarious actors haven't started posting as "fellow kids" yet, like they have on Reddit for many years.

[–] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 days ago

Agreed. Welcome!

Obama killed reddit with that AMA and i will NEVER FORGIVE HIM. oh yea also the drone bombing was bad too.

[–] CraigimusPR1M3@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I wasn't sure about lemmy at first and im still not entirely sure... but fuck reddit

[–] Pudutr0n@feddit.cl 3 points 1 day ago
[–] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 64 points 3 days ago (11 children)

And eventually:

Friendship ended with Lemmy

Now Piefed is my new best friend

[–] Thekingoflorda@lemmy.world 41 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Beautiful thing about the fediverse is that people can choose and no one get’s excluded if you do not agree with the popular choice. Hope it stays that way.

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 2 days ago

"You hear that? We have OPTIONS!" -Yes Man, Fallout New Vegas

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 days ago

But how else will I feel superior in my echo-chamber based opinions, now that everyone has a choice? I need to feel like I fit in with the masses but not TOO much...

Nothing says community like splintering the already tiny community into 90 smaller ~~distros~~ sub-communities

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's all one fediverse, the only difference is who crafts your frontend.

[–] Naz@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago

Ohhhhh

Nvm then

Carry on

Splintering nothing. I’m on Piefed right now. The Fediverse means it plays nice with Lemmy just fine. Same with Mbin.

[–] ddplf@szmer.info 18 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Care to explain what piefed is and how it differs from lemmy? I thought it was just one of the instances in lemmyverse

[–] cm0002@piefed.world 22 points 3 days ago (3 children)

PieFed is an alternative platform in the same social media category of Lemmy, "Forum and link aggregator".

It's younger, but is being rapidly developed, esp considering it's written in mostly python instead of Rust.

Biggest benefit though, is it doesn't come with toxic political ideologies attached like Lemmy does (https://lemmy.world/post/29072279)

Also why we're moving to more generic terms like "Threadiverse" instead of "Lemmy-verse"

[–] Robin@lemmy.world 27 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (3 children)

So far, the Lemmy devs being Marxist doesnt seem to affect the quality of the software. And since it's the fediverse you can just go to a server that doesn't clash with your own world view.

[–] cm0002@piefed.world 20 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It has in some ways, it's awfully convenient that features that would harm their ability to spread their ideology get neutered or not developed fully. Like making the modlog less useful, neutering the vote system (Lemmy used to have a more robust voting system, until they noticed that it could be used against them) or still not having a proper blocking system in place after 4 years

There's also the "soft" issues, instance admins not wanting to take the step of defederating with .ml when they do so with grad and hex because they depend on support from dessalines and they fear he would be petty and cut off support with them if they dared to do so (which prob would)

[–] Pudutr0n@feddit.cl 6 points 2 days ago

devil's always in the details

It's also just generally easier for first-time users to start using. For anyone curious, their little "feeds" of communities you can follow in one go by topic are super handy.

For example, if I subscribe to the activismplus feed, I automatically subscribe to communities like antiwork, solarpunk, socialism, leftism, anarchism, unions, antifascism, human rights, left urbanism, etc, from a number of different instances all at once.

For a first-time user, it's easier to pick a topic they're interested in and automatically be following all the relevant communities across most instances, rather than subscribing to communities one-by-one over a very long period of time.

[–] Mwa@thelemmy.club 6 points 2 days ago

Yeah the only thing I dont like about Piefied is its written in Python instead.
The Communist stuff shouldn't be a problem unless it affected the Software itself.

[–] Sunshine@piefed.zip 11 points 2 days ago

PieFed written in python has consolidated comments, flairs, spoilers, polls, topics, feeds (like multireddits), proper blocks, hashtags, piped video integration, disclaimer messages, better mod and reporting tools.

I'm not ready for that yet because change is terrifying and it should always be avoided at all cost.

[–] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 16 points 3 days ago

I get it.

When Voyager got Piefed support I exported my communities and decided to try it. Loving it so far!

Signed up just because of this, thanks for the reminder

Me after trying to find a Reddit alternative and I stumble across Lemmy.

[–] Cyniez@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

super relatable.

[–] ano_ba_to@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

After a while, you realize this place is not perfect either. Too much Linux (although I'm on Linux now), too much "voter suppression" messages from the left (which I'm no longer), tankies or whatever, I could swear I've seen several anti-Japanese/racist posts and the same crypto drivel you'd find on reddit.

[–] Pudutr0n@feddit.cl 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well choosing your communities is also key. idk.

[–] ano_ba_to@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

I kind of wanted to see memes on the memes community, but maybe the moderation is a bit too loose...

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I highly reccomend making the move to Piefed. The Lemmy devs promote westerners all off themselves so that Putin and Xi Jinping can fuck more people's wives.

Then they go back to reddit after 2 weeks

[–] SeventySeven@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

It's been 2 years for me, and I never went back. Well, aside from looking up the random tech question here and there since Reddit is in every search result. (Use redlib to view reddit stuff!) I am quite liking the fediverse. It has this early Internet forum vibe to it. I kinda hope it stays small for a little while longer. More people probably means more enshittification.
