Kinda surprised Canada hasn't followed France's lead, and invited all the worthwhile people like scientists to apply - they'd become more important and useful than the USA rather quickly.

A few in Ireland too. They're getting the applications denied though :(
Awe I had no idea that they had refugee applications. I was looking at normal citizenship and they extended the time for Americans specifically.
Cool. I just hope they can get everyone in ASAP!
I sympathize with people wanting and trying to leave. Personally, I’m tired. I’ve been fighting these republicans for over a decade. I even spent a weekend in jail for trying to fight for other people’s rights. There is a bigger issue in the US that most people on Lemmy seem to ignore. Let’s say we get all the fascista out of government. Let’s say we push them out and get control and bring back democracy in the US.
If this happens, our problems won’t be fixed. The core issue of the US is the people who have been fed propaganda for decades. The racism, the fear, the hate, all runs deep into the core of their personalities now. And there is nothing I can think of that can change this. Maybe after decades when they all die off and hopefully our kids learn from their mistakes that we might be able to see change. But I don’t see it happening in the next decade. The country is screwed.
So staying and fighting will do fuck all to fix this country. I sympathize with people who have the means and money who are trying to leave. If I wasn’t struggling to make ends meet I’m sure I’d try and do the same.
i dont think americans can count as refugees in other countries, unless your under things like systemic persecution, genocided or in a war torn country/civil war,,,etc. just minor targeting isnt enough. and were not even close to being there, all trump is doing is just lightly doing it, because hes not targeting specifically red states as well
the most succesful way to emigrate to another country is only very NICHE anyways.(PROFESSORS, specialty MDs), or if your SO has dual citizenship.
When the good people leave, the bad people win.
I bet these people didn't vote. Enjoy, Canada.
However, the choice between "do I stay and potentially risk my life and my family's lives trying to help or do I leave to try my best to keep myself and my family safe" is intensely personal. I don't blame any of these people for wanting to leave - sometimes the best thing you can do is simply leave the situation.
