The Filter song Hey Man Nice Shot is about what’s in that bag.

[–] FuyuhikoDate@feddit.org 3 points 3 weeks ago

Holy shit. Love that song. Never knew that fact...

[–] teamevil@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

The only album worth a damn from Filter.

Can they help not having to work all the god damned time ?

[–] sturlabragason@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] interdimensionalmeme@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 weeks ago

They said no, if you're not sick then you have to work until you die unless you can somehow capture enough of other people's wealth to live off of before you die.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Depending on where you live, all 988 does is forward your information to the police. When I’ve called it, basically a bunch of questions to try to get you to trip that line, then nothing but “I’m sorry to hear that :(“

There’s no requirement that the volunteer have clinical experience. I’ve heard horror stories of people being hung up or mocked. The company that runs it (and subcontracts it to several companies that they hide, it can be very difficult to figure out who is actually taking your call) is opaque and does not listen to complaints.

988 is mostly a fancy ad campaign.

[–] sturlabragason@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Fuck, didnt know. Just searched up international suicide hotline and thought this looked legit.

Anyone know about any real alternatives? I’ll update my original comment.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Warmlines are usually a better alternative.

They’re not as well funded as 988, sometimes it’s hard to get someone on the other line. Which sucks. But when it comes to suicidality, the system is very deeply fucked. If you say the wrong thing, you can end up in a mandatory hold and sent out in much worse shape than you were.

This is a problem that needs to be recognized by mental health care professionals and policy makers, but is not, because it’s assumed that if you experience a mental health crisis you can not be trusted to understand what is happening. There’s an assumption that being suicidal = being insane, thus meaning that you are a voice that does not need to be listened to.

These are the Republicans we need these days

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

We don’t need the suicides, we need the convictions and sentencing.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Well we aren't getting the convictions and sentencing, sooooooooo...

[–] ragebutt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I hope it’s a dove 🕊️ or some other fun magic trick

Oh, maybe it’s treats and candies

Whatever it is I’m sure it won’t give everyone in attendance ptsd nightmares.

[–] QProphecy@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I remember the blood gushing out of his nose... True nightmare fuel.

[–] BreadOven@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

A surprisingly large amount.

[–] threeonefour@piefed.ca 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If only all politicians did this after a felony conviction.

[–] teamevil@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

He wasn't guilty, his accusers were the guilty ones. Dwyer did this so his family wouldn't lose insurance.

[–] hedgehogging_the_bed@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Source? He was a State Treasurer involved in a complicated bribery and contracting scandal. It's not a he-said-she-said sort of case. His accuser was a deputy comptroller for Pittsburgh Public Schools who noted contracts were wildly overvalued for the work and called the State Auditor General who called the FBI to investigate the matter. Who are you suggesting was lying?

[–] teamevil@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

You know what? I honestly don't remember where I read it, but because I grew up with Hey Man Nice Shot, I remember reading an article about it... From a half assed Google search right now I find info (100 % trustworthy sources I'm sure) on a straight dope forum... https://boards.straightdope.com/t/was-budd-dwyer-factually-guilty-innocent-or-what/631629/24?page=2

White collar crime seems like it's all from a legal perspective, quite often.

Edit: I can't believe I'm using this as a source but according to the straight dope forum whoever accused him admitted to lying, seems based on dubious sources at best. So I probably don't know what the hell I'm talking about.

Interesting! Thanks. That has some more nuance than I was expecting.

PA state government is rife with corruption of every level and so we as residents tend to leap to conclusions that every state official, especially the elected ones, are always committing some kind of crime and it's just the unlucky ones who get caught and tried. The State Treasurer in particular has a recent bad history.

Mild spoiler and trigger warning for Mr. RobotThis event was the inspiration behind the season 1 finale scene where an E Corp exec kills himself during a live interview.

[–] Frozzie@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm lucky I haven't seen the video of this guy's death

[–] Mickey7@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The video was kinda interesting and wasn't too gross. It was the complete surprise that made it interesting

[–] warbond@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Not too gross? Good god, man.

[–] SippyCup@feddit.nl 13 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

If you were around in the early days of the Internet, this video was far from the worst thing you'd see.

Yeah, plenty of folks encountered terrorist beheading videos when they were like 10. In the grand scheme of things, this video isn’t even that gory.

I learned about this in a weird way when I was a kid. Faith No More ended up being my first breadcrumb in the trail to watching someone die on the internet
