Me:

Friend: Try bacon on jam on toast

Me: That sound awful

Friend: it's delicious

Me: ok I try

Me tries

Friend: Was it any good?

Me: it was... ok

Friend: too bad I imagined it would be great

Me: what you never tasted?

Ex-friend: no

A former coworker on night shift was a former manager at MacDonald's, she claimed that putting the grape jelly on a sausage biscuit was amazing.

I stop by McDonald's on my way home and try it. Once I finished the sausage biscuit with grape jelly I conclude that she was high when she came up with that because it was awful.

The following night she asks if I tried it and I tell her I did and thought it was awful, she replied "eh, I guess you've got to be stoned to enjoy it".

I occasionally add strawberry or grape jelly to a sausage egg mcmuffin and and I think it works really well.

[–] djehuti@programming.dev 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Strawberry preserves spread on a grilled cheese sandwich is great.

Note: choose either a pickle or strawberry jam; never both.

[–] tomenzgg@midwest.social 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We have some peaches and I've been putting them in some grilled cheeses I've been making with maple-leaf–smoked Gouda I also got this week and it's been pretty incredible.

[–] djehuti@programming.dev 2 points 12 hours ago

Whoa that sounds awesome, will try!

[–] oppy1984@lemdro.id 1 points 2 days ago

To each their own, it wasn't for me.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That is a variant of a Monti Cristo.

Monti Cristos are delicious,

[–] oppy1984@lemdro.id 1 points 2 days ago

To each their own, it wasn't for me.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

That is delicious.

[–] Okokimup@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Turn that into a grilled cheese and you've hit gold

[–] SchmidtGenetics@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I have those everytime I have breakfast, little egg yolk, yumm.

[–] OldSageRick@lemmy.zip 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Also whats that nickname of yours OP?

[–] Gork@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

One of my Valheim characters. A bit caveman-like.

[–] OldSageRick@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Fair enough, have a good time playing!

[–] TomMasz@lemmy.world 33 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ernie is committing a mercy killing. The hate crime is mustard on watermelon.

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Maybe Ernie's hate crime is unrelated to the top part

[–] teamevil@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Ernie got some demons

[–] epicsninja@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

If you see a news article saying "X Sensational Thing has become a trend", odds are is a gross exaggeration to the point of complete fabrication, and you fell for it.

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

But seriously, melon mixed with feta, mint leaves and seasoned with chili is really nice.

[–] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 13 points 2 days ago

Officer, how can it be a hate crime if I loved doing it?

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Lol, dude’s trying not to vomit.

(Only a trend like the cinnamon challenge, something awful with the taste of regret)

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think you could make a sour sauce that would be good with watermelon. Maybe something similar to lemon curd.

[–] Shapillon@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Sriracha isn't exactly sour but it pairs really well with other sweet stuff.

One of my favourite snacks is some sour jam (lemon, berries, rhubarb, etc) with a healthy dollop of sriracha on bread.

The mix between fruits and garlic kinda feel like Durian if it had no smell.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

"9gag" in this case means having exactly nine gag reflexes after eating it.

[–] M137@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I actually think this might work with some kinds of mustard. But definitely not with 'Murican mustard, as that's vile no matter what.

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I agree, putting salt on watermelon is a big thing in the south. I think using a flavorful mustard wouldn’t be much different than using a salad dressing.

[–] goosehorse@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Salt on watermelon is delicious!

Last year, a friend made me a watermelon salad that was basically just watermelon with balsamic vinegar and some mixed greens, and it was fantastic.

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

EVERYONE CALM DOWN.

Thats not a hate crime, just regular crime. Totally fine.

[–] MadnessForTsar@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I feel my stomachache is coming back just by seeing this image

[–] MilitantAtheist@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I don't care about the mustard. The way he's holding your melon makes me want to end him.

"Food trends" kill me.

Mmmm! Know what goes really good on your bowl of steaming rat assholes? Cobwebs. Have you had your bowl of steaming rat assholes and cobwebs today?

[–] BluJay320@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 days ago

I could believe it’s not horrible flavor-wise, but the very act in and of itself is irreparably sinful

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'll put chili lime seasoning on fruit sometimes.

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That's... Normal? Tajin on a fresh mango is delicious!

[–] PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I feel like anyone who considers that normal should be open to mustard on watermelon

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

It seems slightly logical if you think about it hard enough. I've had salt on watermelon before, and I've heard of people pickling watermelon but I haven't had it myself.

Salt & vinegar are common mustard ingredients, so, maybe? But it still seems gross on my initial assessment without tasting it.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Big fan of chilli flakes and just a little salt on seared pineapple.

[–] PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

That looks like an article - did 9gag morph from a cesspool into a curated cesspool like buzzfeed?

[–] Toneswirly@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I'd eat it.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago
[–] shneancy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

and there i was thinking i'm committing hate crimes against italy by putting ketchup on a panini whilst there're people out there committing hate crimes against the very idea of flavour!

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago

I expect most of my pizza and pasta recipes are a hate crime in Italy and I refuse to stop.
