This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

Wait, I can get free healthcare playing video games? Where?!?

[–] kerrigan778@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 22 hours ago

Much of the world outside the US

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 5 points 18 hours ago

nah they are playing video games all day because video games are more fun than toxic work environments and helping CEOs earn bonuses

[–] Doom@ttrpg.network 15 points 1 day ago

Y'all got free healthcare?

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 19 points 1 day ago

Yes, that's why they're at home all day, and ignoring all the well paid jobs out there with free healthcare that I'm sure they'd get if they just went door to door with a résumé like these ghouls pretend they did in the 1950s.

What free healthcare?

[–] TheObviousSolution@lemmy.ca 10 points 23 hours ago

So basically, they are mooching off of free healthcare - by performing by one of the most risk free activities that is almost going to guarantee they won't need healthcare in the first place?

MAGA tactic:

Take negative stereotype, say it is preventing a desirable goal from being reached, then say it is because of what you are actually trying to cut. Doesn't matter if they barely have any real relation to each other.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

I got fucked up in a video game and can't handle the defeat so I blame them for attention!

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago

You know what, he's right. I'll go get off my ass to spend the evening running my 2 million dollar quarts mine and then swing by my 875k dollar quarts furnaces, weight seperation, flotation cells, and crystalization facility to create a bunch of semiconductor grade silicon used in solar and electronics production.

OH WAIT! I DON'T HAVE $3M FACILITIES TO RUN! Somebody else is out there doing the work that used to take a hundred men. The world doesn't need us all doing 12 hour days, the world wouldn't take us if we even offered.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 73 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He has no idea what the medicare requirements are, does he?

[–] Ephera@lemmy.ml 48 points 1 day ago

His job is to spread lies and fear, so no reason for him to say something different, if he would know reality...

[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 359 points 1 day ago (12 children)

Can confirm. Here in Canada, nobody works. We all sit at home and play video games instead. There's no industry, no shops, no hospitals. Only video games.

[–] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 113 points 1 day ago

Yeah, most people I know don’t have jobs! We just run extension cords between our igloos to power our video game machines. If it weren’t for them we could totally be like the States. 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

Translated: Adults 18 to 25 are using there parents healthcare and are not paying for the crappiest healthcare being offered at their first jobs.

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (4 children)

How's your son's dick today, Mike Johnson? You have the app that tells you, so if you wouldn't mind...

That does make sense considering every other developed country has free healthcare and literally 100% of their young men spend every waking hour playing video games.

[–] Gibibit@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It does make sense because I break my legs regularly playing video games, putting a huge strain on public healthcare.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You’re probably holding your controller wrong.

Nobody is a bigger government mooch then MAGA Nazi politicians.

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 7 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Young men have no idea what health care is, nor do they care.

They are healthy and heal fast.

They are the ones who traditionally pay in and dont take out.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 4 points 22 hours ago

As someone who is 25 I must agree, not only do I not give a damn I actively welcome death. Shitty fucken eyesight not withstanding, I think there's thinner ballistic glass

...says guy who gets free healthcare and is paid by a public who he does nothing good for and billionaires who bribe him to hurt the public.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 59 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Videogames are the cheapest and most durable form of entertainment, ideal qualities when you don't have a job and resources to keep you busy. This fucker wants people to never escape being in misery.

does jerking off while I'm supposed to be working count?

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 161 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

Or, what if their healthcare continued to be free so they wouldn't have an incentive to find a way to live on $700 month?

I know one of those young men playing video games, and he REALLY wants a job, but no matter how he works the math, the medication that keeps him alive costs more than what he'd make. So, his only choice is to budget around permanent poverty or die.

Once again, we have lawmakers just making spurious if not outright false statements with no repercussions. When your words decide people's reality, you should be afraid of what you say. And I don't see that fear in legislators.

They just say whatever the fuck incorrect bullshit they wish, and walk it back at their leisure when the effect is already resolved in throughout news media. The world's gotten their soundclip, the base started foaming when they heard their whistles, and then the politican quietly amends "oh, I obviously didn't mean that." If more politicans shut the fuck up because they were scared of the repercussions of walking their statements back, then maybe there'd be more reporting on what they've done then the inflammatorily idiotic shit they spew every other day.

[–] Gowron_Howard@lemmy.world 122 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This is absurd, considering Mike Johnson doesn’t work for a living. None of these government officials do anything worthwhile but still get paid for it.

Didn't he say this shit months ago?

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 57 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So, they want to take away healthcare young men don’t have so they’ll get jobs that don’t exist. Sounds like a conservative plan.

They targeted gamers.

Gamers.

We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a little digital token saying we did.

We'll punish our selfs doing things others would consider torture, because we think it's fun.

We'll spend most if not all of our free time min maxing the stats of a fictional character all to draw out a single extra point of damage per second.

Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same quests over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know evety little detail such that some have attained such gamer nirvana that they can literally play these games blindfolded.

Do these people have any idea how many controllers have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and carts destroyed 8n frustration? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights?

These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We're already building a new one without them. They take our devs? Gamers aren't shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the games our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty head set. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.

Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another boss fight.

Does he realize these unemployed, dirty gamers who complain but don’t do anything productive tend to lean conservative?

[–] full_throttle@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The problem is not this bloke. The problem is the people that voted for him.

Maybe. But in many areas, only one party realistically has a shot, so reps basically get elected in their primary process. So instead of needing a majority of the total population to win, you just need a plurality of the few who get involved in the primary process.

Blame the people involved in the primary process, not the people who only vote in the general election.
