The Gaza government media office on Friday condemned the discovery of oxycodone pills reportedly discovered in flour bags distributed by “American-Israeli” aid centres.

“We have so far documented four testimonies from citizens who found these pills inside the flour bags,” it said in a statement, warning of the “possibility that some of these narcotic substances were deliberately ground or dissolved in the flour itself”.

Oxycodone is an opioid meant to treat severe and long-term pain, often prescribed to cancer patients.

The drug is highly addictive and can have life-threatening effects, including breathing complications and hallucinations.

The media office’s statement comes after several social media posts shared images of pills purportedly discovered in flour bags in Gaza.

The US is working overtime at making the rest of the world hate them. Gotta justify those defense industry expenditures huh?

[–] Dorkyd68@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Oxycodone most certainly does not cause hallucinations. Severe and i mean severe withdrawal may cause hallucinations but the drug itself does no such thing. That's just false

FFS...

60yrs ago, I was proud and counted myself lucky to be both an American and a Texan... Now, I'm just embarrassed to be either one of these.

How far both have fallen. I'm just devastated, chastened, sorry, and personally hurt I've lived long enough to witness the complete demise of both entities.

What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer: a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim.

To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciations of tyrants, brass fronted impudence; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade, and solemnity, are, to him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy—a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages.

There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices, more shocking and bloody, than are the people of these United States, at this very hour.

-Frederick Douglas

We’ve never really been great, unless you were White and Male. But we have been good at selling the grift.

Good on you for seeing past the lie.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (4 children)

I'd argue that a nation which has slowly and tediously addressed those things is great.

I know this is Lemmy, and you can also only say good things about China and Russia, so don't feel obligated to find any good in the US.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

I know this is Lemmy, and you can also only say good things about China and Russia

That's just .ml and their alts.

[–] Seleni@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Goodness no, I hate the Russian and Chinese government. They can all go take a long walk off a short pier.

And the fact that we can address these things, and occasionally change them (unlike China and Russia), is I suppose a bit encouraging.

But that’s small encouragement next to the mass slavery, targeted attacks, and disenfranchisement throughout our history, and so much of it by regular everyday citizens cheerfully doing terrible things to other regular everyday citizens, no (or very little) government involvement required.

And it’s still going today. The majority of people in this country refused to vote, or voted for a felon who ran on a program of destroying the constitution, over a PoC woman. Because they liked Trump’s message more, or, even more damning, figured that since they probably wouldn’t be impacted, it didn’t matter.

[–] Maeve@midwest.social 1 points 1 day ago

Critical support is okay, but if we dismiss our wrongs to the point progress stalls and reverses because of complacency, that's something that needs addressing, along with failure to be disabused of cherished illusions and delusions.

Texas has always been America's skid marked undies tho. Always. Ever since Americans moved there to specifically steal it from Mexico. This is why Republicans call Mexican immigrants "invaders", because they're worried Mexico is doing the same thing we did to them.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Oklahoma has Texas to thank for their panhandle. Ask them about it some time.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Oh I know why. I've seen that show "how the states got their shapes" lol

[–] iopq@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (6 children)

The Spanish "moved" to Texas to steal it from the natives though

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The Natives "moved" to Texas to steal it from the previous group of natives.

[–] iopq@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I mean, current Europeans descend from steppe herders who conquered the previous farming population

Even if you're a European in Europe your ancestors were a band of marauding nomads

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's kind of my point. It's turtles all the way down.

2025 – 60 = 1965

America and Texas were good back then? For who?

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 63 points 2 days ago (3 children)

We’re going to find out that some lunatic Christian dominionists in the CIA are the ones who actually laced all the recreational drugs with Fentanyl aren’t we

[–] TimewornTraveler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 29 points 2 days ago (1 children)

well 90% of the fentanyl that crosses the border is brought by a US citizen

Christians doing exactly as Satan has instructed them

Why is it that it's always the dumb ones being so overtly religious? Don't answer that...

Smallpox blankets all over again

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's even better. With smallpox blankets they die and are freed of this mortal coil. With opioids they can get addicted and feed the machine until they are no longer useful. Capitalism baby!

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't think they can really feed the machine. I think they just die an excruciating death

[–] Maeve@midwest.social 1 points 1 day ago

Just because they're not willingly suffering and dying to feed the profit complex doesn't mean they're not feeding the machine. See also: Soylent Green.

[–] MangioneDontMiss@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

they're pain killers.

the horror of sending pain killers to a war zone. /s

fucking morons.

edit: and another thing -- so many of you have been fooled by this vilification and politicization of pain killers that it has actually been successfully weaponized against you to such an extent that its hurt the patients that need them and corrupted your sound decision making during elections. this is the opposite of woke.

[–] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

Of ALL the painkillers the US has at their disposal, they chose precisely the ones that cause crippling addition and deathly withdrawals? And hid them inside flour to... Keep them dry?

Yeah, no.

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

“We have so far documented four testimonies from citizens who found these pills inside the flour bags,”

Best case - someone is smuggling oxy in to make a buck off of opioid addiction. But some think there might be oxy ground up in the flour so that Gazans gain a dependency, and might die from OD or withdrawal symptoms.

[–] MangioneDontMiss@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

and why the fuck would the israelis do that? if they really wanted to fuck with Palestine they would be mixing much worse stuff. this makes no sense whatsoever.

there is only one, unsubstantiated, hamas run, source for this information -- and you're just blindly believing something that doesn't make any damn sense. This is a war of a propaganda and you're just unquestionably believing one side of it.

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I personally don't think it is very likely that they are trying to poison Palestinians.

I find it completely unsurprising that someone is smuggling oxy in to make a quick buck.

In this thread alone I saw someone try to justify it by saying it's an important medical supply. Something like arsenic or cyanide might do a better job of killing people but then why would people start dropping like flies? Painkillers are a hot commodity around the world so it wouldn't surprise me at all if it was meant to be smuggled in and the wrong people discovered it. Given everything Israel has done so far it seems more likely they're trying to sew chaos rather than an enterprising dealer trying to tap a forgotten customer base.

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Press X to doubt this wasn't just someone trying to smuggle drugs in to sell through aid shipments.

[–] bloup@lemmy.sdf.org 29 points 2 days ago (3 children)

But how could you possibly make money by smuggling almost anything into Gaza especially right now? What are you going to sell it for, a ration of pita bread?

[–] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

They didn't put crack in black neighborhoods for short term profit...

You gotta be fucking kidding me with this. I’ve got room for like, 4 people, if any Palestinians can get out and need shelter. I wouldn’t want to come to this country, but it might be slightly better than Israel right now. Although that probably won’t last much longer.

[–] theneverfox@pawb.social 37 points 2 days ago

They cut off the Internet and cell service back when this all started unfortunately

[–] BigBenis@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Until they're deported to a ~~prison~~ death camp in El Salvador .. Assuming you're from America

You assume correctly; hence the last two sentences I wrote. I probably should have specified the particular shithole country I live in.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 21 points 2 days ago

Ah man. I wasn't making a suggestion when I said I was surprised the food aid wasn't being poisoned. 😮‍💨

They’re like the microplastics of American society.

[–] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Assuming they made it into food, would it be potent at all after being baked at 325 for 30 minutes?

[–] rc__buggy@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Yup. Lots of addicts "smoke" the pills by heating them on foil and inhaling the vapor

I'm sure on the outside of the bread most of it would be vaporised off or whatever but surely more in the middle of the fluffy bread it would still be an effective opiod.

This is the most evil act I've heard of yet and I thought that blowing up all of the hospitals was as bad as it could get.
