And while we're at it, these yellow-lit interiors with brown tiles were pretty too.

[–] gofsckyourself@lemmy.world 53 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure the yellow and brown was just from all the indoor chain smoking

[–] InFerNo@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, they were probably completely transparent colorless glass 😂😩

[–] WoodScientist@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I like this look. It has this aura of beautiful golden light about it. It has that aura without going the full gaudy gilded look like you would find in something the president built.

[–] NarrativeBear@lemmy.world 28 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

That golden light would look great on my water bed and lava lamp collection.

Eh. We can use some of the good things from the past without using the bad as well.

Sweet sweet 80s, you've come back! Glass blocks and waterbeds, here we come!

[–] papalonian@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Two things are better on a water bed... One of them is sleep

Have literally never heard a positive experience of fucking on a water bed. Can't imagine it would be enjoyable.

[–] subarctictundra@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Now I want to try both things on a water bed

They're called glass brick or glass block, and you can still buy them, I just checked some local home improvement stores' websites, and they all had some in stock

[–] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 27 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

My 50s house still has a glass brick window facing the driveway. It's a great silhouette backdrop, if I leave the workbench light on.

3d printed cat silhouette with glowing green eyes

[–] subarctictundra@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Very pretty.

[–] Landless2029@lemmy.world 25 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Why is this a shitpost? It's nostalgia

[–] TheMinions@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Shitposts on Lemmy are basically just post whatever you want.

Sometimes it’s beans, sometimes it’s moth, sometimes it’s highly specific nostalgia. Also a lot of trans rights stuff (happy pride, btw).

I always wanted to smash one of these walls with a sledge hammer. I bet it would be satisfying as fuck. Not because I hate them or anything, but because I grew up with games like KnockOut and Don't Break the Ice and these walls trigger my desire to smash out the blocks without destroying the whole wall.

[–] subarctictundra@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Haha. I think I have seen these with a couple of windows smashed. Although something tells me they'd be quite hard to smash — like a CRT.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 weeks ago

Those are my basement windows. Previous owners fucked me over if I want to let some air in my basement though.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

It's not set up to be a giant Scrabble board. Disappointing.

[–] subarctictundra@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

You could defo play scrabble on it with one of those liquid chalk pens

[–] Sir_Gkar@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

When I looked at it I just had the uncontrollable urge to play Tetris.

[–] Hikermick@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Huh I've never seen a wall of these and I'm old enough to remember the 70's. Glass block was something you replaced your old basement windows with

[–] SoleInvictus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It must be a regional thing as we're probably about the same age. Growing up in CA, I frequently saw portions of walls made of these, especially in businesses and universities. One house by me had a cool turret staircase with alternating wall sections made of these glass bricks. There wasn't much privacy at night, although you could only make out vague shapes.

[–] subarctictundra@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Eastern Europe used them tons

[–] Landless2029@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago
[–] Sorrow3527@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Hm I kinda always hated them.50-70s Austrian buildings used them a lot.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes, but only with a way to get some air in and out.

In my daughters student dormitory, the large corridor linking all the apartments on a level has such a glass wall. 100% closed, no way to air this out.

[–] Maalus@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

100% because it is a fire wall or regulations ask for it.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

100% because it is a fire wall

I don't know what you're talking about, it would be hell to run cat6 through that. I'd definitely route around it and put the firewall in an adjacent room.

The wall material is so hard you'd think it was meant to stop an actual fire.

[–] recklessengagement@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Can somebody help me? I'm trying to come up with a Tetris joke but I keep filling the screen with trash.

[–] rob_t_firefly@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Ah, you're having a creative block.

[–] CurlyWurlies4All@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

Trying pivoting, you might see a solution.

[–] HatchetHaro@pawb.social 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

If I might Plonk in, I have a solution 4-Widening up your perspective. If your Garbage is a Cheese Race you might want to take it slow and don't Sprint, but if it's neat you might want T-spin your mindset around and build on top. Take it in Stride, Back-to-Back, and you can Perfectly Clear out your board.

[–] Steamymoomilk@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

When i look at this image all i hear is the Tetris theme

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)
[–] Sorrow3527@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Huh? Tetris has 1 song and one song only

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

Type B would like to have a word with you, and Type C a steel Chair.

[–] raltoid@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

And the best version is by Doctor Spin aka. Andrew Lloyd Webber. The guy who wrote the most famous songs in Cats, The Phantom of the Opera, Evita, etc.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yes Korobeniki

[–] CurlyWurlies4All@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I lived in a flat in London where the only window was filled with these glass bricks. I think I would have preferred a window.

[–] buzz86us@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I'm likely replacing one of my picture windows with these for thermal reasons.

[–] helvetpuli@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] subarctictundra@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I especially like this one

What a clever way to bring natural light indoors.

[–] Rooty@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Also, teraco as floor material. It cleans easily and it stupidly resistant to damage.
