The recent protests have drawn hundreds of participants but remain far smaller than other mass demonstrations, including the 2020 protests against police violence that spurred Newsom to request assistance from the National Guard.

Lotta Americans still think they're middle class and therefore "safe"

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 94 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Almost as if Agent Orange watched Fox news as his only source of info and thought the whole state was rioting.

[–] tomi000@lemmy.world 12 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

The real question is, how is it possible that anyone is still not rioting yet?

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 8 points 5 hours ago

Because they don't want to get shot by trigger happy cops?

Because they don't want to go to jail when a bunch of techbros pore over phone GPS logs and high resolution footage and drag them into court six months down the line?

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 25 points 15 hours ago

Fox News and Trump are an Ouroboros Centipede - their shit flows through each other, perpetually.

[–] Montreal_Metro@lemmy.ca 56 points 17 hours ago

National guards should leave California and arrest Donald Trump in another state! Wowee

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 36 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe he should start paying attention to daily briefings and not to Fox News. Another failure by him and a huge waste of time for the military.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 12 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Honestly, his daily briefings are just telling him what he wants to hear. He might have had some pushback in his first term, but those people have all be purged by now.

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

Yeah that’s true. I think he’s got Fox News people doing the daily briefings for him now too, so they’re about the same.

[–] Wytch@lemmy.zip 187 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Angelenos are not stupid. Let them guard empty streets.

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 107 points 22 hours ago (4 children)

Exactly. Be peaceful above all but now isn't the time to picket ICE or DHS installations. Make Trump look like the dictator and loser he is by wasting the Guards time. Observation and Reporting should still continue though. Don't let the controlled and subservient media outlets tell the whole story.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Now isn't the time! It's not too late yet!

[–] brygphilomena@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 16 hours ago

I mean. That sounds like capitulating.

Protest and make the national guardsman recognize the protestors as the good guys.

You know the media will just ignore it if things are quiet and no one is there.

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 42 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

And money, mobilization is not cheap - large part of military spending is UMO or Unit Movement.

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 30 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Even truer for the National Guard when it has to call up soldiers.

[–] andyburke@fedia.io 40 points 21 hours ago

Businesses probably happy to be losing good employees for days on end to guard our now quiet (and quiet before ICE showed up) streets.

Is Trump delivering for you as an American? Is this all useful?

[–] LonstedBrowryBased@lemm.ee 6 points 19 hours ago

Trump will make California foot the bill here

[–] raltoid@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (2 children)

Go lick more boot you facsist.

The government is kidnapping children, and your best recommendation is to watch!? That means you are supportive of what they're doing.

[–] kassiopaea@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 47 minutes ago* (last edited 42 minutes ago)

So... everyone who doesn't risk their lives for a small chance of making a difference is a fascist? Yeah, sure, that checks out. "If you're not with us then you're against us" is not and has never been valid logic.

[–] tomi000@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

How can you write this comment while being detained after rioting?

[–] Bonus@piefed.social 50 points 20 hours ago

There are apparently thousands of people protesting at multiple locations now. In addition to the central Hell locations behind Union Station, they're at City Hall and out in Pasadena, protesting at ICE office there. I'm not caught up but following some folks like this guy: https://bsky.app/profile/chadloder.bsky.social

[–] burgerpocalyse@lemmy.world 42 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

but there was a car on fire! A CAR!

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 12 points 14 hours ago

I just saw that post on Reddit and checked the comments. Boy has that place been astroturfed to hell and back. Soooo many (item)(item)(number) one month old accounts starting arguments and people buying in and engaging. I had to stop pointing out to people they are arguing with paid actors because I didn't want to think there were that many idiots among my cohort.

[–] Monument@lemmy.sdf.org 17 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

Yeah, but like, are we sure it wasn’t just a Tesla?

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 10 points 15 hours ago

They do just kinda do that.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 117 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (4 children)

He needs his base to believe ~~Italy’s~~ it is a war zone.

The propaganda machine is going to make it look like CA and other places are in open insurrection to justify civil war.

Welcome to Nazi America.

(Edit to correct an auto incorrect.)

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 36 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Not protesting isn't going to change the narrative. His base still believes every major city literally burnt down during the 2020 protests.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 8 points 19 hours ago

Absolutely.

But just get ready for his bullshit.

It’s fresh and more rancid than ever.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 52 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Propaganda will only get you so far. You need a radical insurgency you can count on.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 25 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Well, andor kinda got that wrong.

They just need one or two good clips of people being violent, that they can put on blast.

Doesn’t need to be a recent clip, or an actual liberal insurrection or even happening in the US.’

[–] Carmakazi@lemmy.world 9 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

If I had a nickel for every time Fox News rolled that clip of the alleged gang members holding rifles in that apartment hallway I'm sure I could buy something quite nice for myself.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 15 points 18 hours ago

I remember during the Floyd riots, my grandma from Missouri kept sending me clips of things.

“Grandma, this is Minnesota. We don’t speak French.” Had to be said more than a few times.

She still think’s Minneapolis is a war zone, even thought the last time she was here I took her for a drive through, showing how it’s not.

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Honestly I thought you just meant they’d take footage from a recent riot somewhere in Italy and claim it was Inglewood, manufacturing evidence is certainly in the playbook as we’ve seen from previous wars.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

I mean, they might do that. Floyd rioters apparently spoke a whole lot of french in the coverage my grandma saw (and sent me.)

[–] nico198x@europe.pub 2 points 19 hours ago
[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 34 points 18 hours ago (4 children)

The news is really trying to sensationalize it but yes, it's by and large very peaceful. Also for some reason, line dancing.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 hours ago

Also for some reason, line dancing.

That's about as non-threatening an activity as a group can do.

The world is watching, and everyone knows what opening fire on a line dance party would look like.

[–] vxx@lemmy.world 4 points 10 hours ago

Absolutely, the headlines and reported words don't match the video evidence at all. The best they had was police pushing against a small group of maybe 30-50 protestors.

[–] Monument@lemmy.sdf.org 17 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

Also for some reason, line dancing.

Boredom, I imagine.

It’s not a bad strategy for the protest organizers, though. If you see someone sullenly staring down the cops (who tend to be itching for reasons to pick fights), grabbing ‘em up for a nerves break is a good way to defray the situation — and demoralize the cops who are stuck at work while others have fun around them.

[–] Zenith@lemm.ee 20 points 17 hours ago

Same as with Portland and Seattle’s autonomous zone, either nothing was happening or the things that were happening was because of the feds

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 33 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Fucking finally. This is how it mostly was last night too. I watched the videos on live stream and it sure seemed like there were more ICE than protesters. Glad the national guard didn't have to make any evil vs. good choices when they got there.

Here are some links of the live streams you can check out for yourself:

Here's another view: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdPTnHNEUiE

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 30 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Their arrival was an evil choice. All 2000 are terrorists committing illegal acts from an illegal order.

[–] osaerisxero@kbin.melroy.org 12 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

They could have subdued the supposedly federal agents who were abducting people and illegally occupying regions of LA County, so the option of being good while there was on the table.

[–] refurbishedrefurbisher@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Yeah, but then they would be disobeying orders.
