1337x is still kicking.

[–] O_R_I_O_N@lemm.ee 5 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I still use the pirate bay, is it not recommended?

[–] scoobford@lemmy.zip 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I don't think it's really considered very safe anymore, although it is still very popular.

[–] 6nk06@sh.itjust.works 0 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Safe about what? I get movies all the time and they are... movies?

If you download games and executable files, you're an idiot, but it's been like this for more than 20 years.

[–] themachinestops@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

I wouldn't say downloading games is Inherently unsafe you just need to be careful and download from reputable groups. It is also possible especially craft in movie files such as .mkv to be malicious, also don't forget that the ads in some torrent sites are malicious.

1337x.to has treated me well for the past few years. I love the active comment sections. It's just like TPB was in the early days.

[–] pneumatron@sh.itjust.works 4 points 16 hours ago

This is the one for me too. And I'm sure I don't need to tell y'all, but ad blockers!!! Use them!!!

[–] zaisty@szmer.info 9 points 23 hours ago

torrent.one.pl have a list of public torrent sites. Updates are just in case. Maybe useful.

[–] Chewy7324@discuss.tchncs.de 42 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

1337x.to works well too. If you use a website translator, like Firefox Translate, rutracker is great too.

Otherwise, private torrent sites (e.g. TorrentLeech) are the best addition to Usenet.

Keeping ratio is pretty easy if you set up Cross-Seed. It finds torrents matching your local files (e.g. Usenet downloads) and adds them to your torrent client without using additional space or downloading them again.

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 1 points 9 hours ago

What benefits does Usenet have over Debrid? I've been meaning to try it for years, but after finding out about Debrid services, I don't see the point when I can have a 1Gbps direct download to any torrent I want, without having to rely on seeds.

[–] nrab@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Honestly I just got a few fresh free-leech torrents a while back, seeded them for a week, and built up enough surplus to not have to worry about ratio for the foreseeable future

[–] Chewy7324@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 21 hours ago

Yes. If you've got enough buffer anyway there's not much reason to set up Cross-Seed.

Depending on the tracker this can work better or worse. E.g. I was on a tracker with minimal free leech content, so Cross-Seed helped me a lot.

[–] Vendetta9076@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How would I go about setting up cross seed

[–] Chewy7324@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 day ago

https://www.cross-seed.org/

It takes a bit of time and careful reading until it's set up.

For matching existing data you need to set up dataDirs and partial matchMode. Ideally your local files are organized (e.g. TRaSH guide) to improve cross-seeds ability to find matches. If you need help there's a Discord linked on their website.

[–] pdqcp@lemmy.dbzer0.com 37 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 0 points 9 hours ago

Or Real-Debrid instead of Qbittorrent if you don't mind paying ~$3/mo USD for the convenience of 1Gbps download speeds and no seeders to rely on.

What services people use to get informed what new movies and shows have come online? TorrentGalaxy had great listings.

[–] arararagi@ani.social 1 points 5 hours ago

Good point, I actually don't know any sites like that for live action and movies, only anime ones like anichart.

[–] SEND_BUTTPLUG_PICS@lemmy.zip 6 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (2 children)

Sonarr and Radarr can do this for you. If you have a movie or show that you are interested in that hasn't released yet you can add it to the list and the program will automatically grab it from your preferred torrent site and download it for you as soon as the file is available.

It's really nice when I forget that I added something and then six months later I see that it's been downloaded automatically and is ready to watch.

[–] Ankkuli@lemdro.id 3 points 14 hours ago

Here’s the problem though, I don’t even know what I should be looking for. I liked to be surprised whatever new came up. Also I liked that there was a new bluray rip of an old movie I wanted to watch but had forgotten about.

In other words I don’t have a full list of everything I’m expecting to watch one day. It was so easy to just open up TG once a day and browse the posters they had up and decide then and there if whatever looks interesting.

[–] EddoWagt@feddit.nl 4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Man I really need to get into sonarr and radarr

[–] SEND_BUTTPLUG_PICS@lemmy.zip 3 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

It's so worth it. I spent many years pirating stuff manually by downloading the torrent file, adding it to my torrent program, unzipping it, and using a file browser to select game.of.thrones.s01e01.1080p.proper.webrip.whatever.fuckme.mkv. One day I was like fuck it, we'll do it live and I dove into the whole plex/sonarr/radarr/jackett thing and it streamlined the piracy problem to the point that I very rarely even have to do anything beyond opening up a web browser and typing the name of whatever I'd like to have added to plex and the rest just happens automatically.

It grabs only the torrents in the language you specify with exactly the bitrate and resolution you specify, it unzips stuff and puts it in a correctly named directory with organized filenames and grabs the movie posters and thumbnails. I almost never even have to log into my torrent site. I usually only go there so my account doesn't get disabled for not logging in frequently enough.

As a bonus sonarr and Radarr have a calendar page so you can see when the stuff you want is expected to air in the future.

Dude that's a killer feature. Right now I just use the qbittorrent built in search function, which works fine to be honest. But having it automated (with automated renaming of files?) Would be so much better, although I might need more storage then

[–] Evil_Incarnate@sopuli.xyz 2 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I just started recently. Piece of piss to set up and yes more storage is needed in the near future because i started to grab music as well (although recent events have slowed this). 8tb only goes so far...

[–] EddoWagt@feddit.nl 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Oof, I have 2tb of storage in my pc right now lol. I'll keep ripping my music manually as I'm quite particular with the music I download anyways

[–] Evil_Incarnate@sopuli.xyz 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I kinda went crazy and thought I'd grab every artist I liked and the whole discography (even if I only liked one track) in FLAC. Big stress test on the old rpi2 with 100s of concurrent downloads.

[–] EddoWagt@feddit.nl 2 points 14 hours ago

Hahaha, I just rip my music from deezer in flac, I just make a playlist in deezer and every ones in a while I sync that locally. Would be cool to be able to do that without deezer, but I doubt I can get it to work like a streaming service

[–] ArsonButCute@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I usually just get my torrents from archive.org... Am I pirating wrong?

If you get what you want without getting viruses into your computer, no.

[–] floo@retrolemmy.com 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Torrent Galaxy went down? My *arr stack runs around 25 different trackers. I don’t keep track of them all.

[–] theangriestbird@beehaw.org 0 points 1 day ago (2 children)

How did u find 25 public trackers that aren't blocked by cloud flare?

[–] nfreak@lemmy.ml 1 points 14 hours ago

Flamesolverr still works. Not consistently, but it mostly still works.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

25 private + public trackers.
Ratio is 5:1 for me

[–] MEtrINeS@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 day ago

You can use any torrent client with search included. For example: qbittorrent, frostwire, etc...

Anyway check FREEMEDIAHECKYEAH! https://fmhy.net/videopiracyguide#torrent-sites

[–] rodneyck@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 1 day ago

How about all of them in one?

AIO Search

[–] cmnybo@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 1 day ago

I started getting most of my definitely public domain stuff from TorrentLeech when TG started having issues. Keep an eye out for an open signup. The rest comes from RuTracker, 1337x and The Pirate Bay.

[–] GeekFTW@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 day ago

Only thing I specifically used TG for was comics, as that's the site GetComics had their comic packs on, but since they went down they seem to just be self-hosting their torrent files. Anything else I download I usually run through Prowlarr and search a dozen or two public trackers at a time lol.

I mainly use LimeTorrent and 1337x, I get 99% percent of my stuff from those two sites. Another one worth mentioning is DigitalCore Club. It's a private tracker, but it has open signups quite frequently. It doesn't actually have a ton of content on it, however it has a pretty good requests section. So if you can't find something anywhere you can try to ask for it there.

[–] iltoroargento@lemmy.sdf.org 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Fuck a duck. This is always how I find out about shit like this. Damnit. I was all ready and have time now to do my yearly summer download spree...

I guess 1337x?

Edit: Added the soundbyte that expresses my frustration:(

Tbp

it's a honeypot

Use one of the clones/proxies, and if you're doing what you should be, they'll have no idea who the fuck you are anyway.

[–] Mylk@lemmy.wtf 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What i really miss is the hot picks and new section (even from rarbg). If someone has an idea for that i'm listening.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

Any private torrent tracker worth their server hosting has a staff picks section.
What's in ut depends on the goal/theme of the tracker

[–] ragebutt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Private trackers

get on red first and then get to power user, that gets you a path to invites to many others

[–] Flames5123@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 hours ago

Exactly what I was gonna recommend. IPtorrents hasn’t let me down for 90% of content.

[–] lerba@sopuli.xyz 1 points 9 hours ago
[–] Krill@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

...it isn't down for me...?

[–] vildis@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

you're using a copycat site, torrentgalaxy.to is the only official domain

[–] Ilandar@lemm.ee 1 points 3 hours ago

There was also torrentgalaxy.mx when the site was alive.

[–] melroy@kbin.melroy.org 5 points 1 day ago

What happened? Why is it down 😭
