Hello everyone.

As reported by lemm.ee's staff team at !meta@lemm.ee, the instance will be shut down by the end of this month and that means communities along with it, including !ask@lemm.ee.

It's been nice to have you all in this community. Farewell.

I've got to say, a lot of the more negative interactions I've had have been at lem.ee, so I'm not really that sad about it.

It just closed down? Wow. I didn't know that. You're telling me now for the first time. It led an amazing life. What else can you say? It was an amazing website. Whether you agreed or not, it was an amazing website who led an amazing life. I'm actually saddened to hear that. I am sadden to hear that. Thank you very much.

Hexbear outlived them because this is a site run by posters, and posters never logout

[–] blame@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago

I basically called this a couple of years ago when that whole API thing was going on with Reddit, if your only objection to Reddit is some petty bullshit like that, these libs aren't going to spend their time on a knockoff Reddit when they can just go back to the real reddit-logo.

[–] EndMilkInCrisps@hexbear.net 63 points 2 days ago

Guess the USAID money ran out.

[–] blame@hexbear.net 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

One of the all time great lib dunking enshrined in this comment thread was fueled by a lem.ee poster. I will always be thankful to this guy from .ee for providing magnificent entertainment.

Crab rave moment, I think there was about a 60% chance that if there was a lem.ee handle commenting here, it was some shitty take. so I'm not upset

[–] 4am@lemm.ee 30 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Better than .world, cmon now

[–] CommunistCuddlefish@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Very true. I don't see .world though because they defederated from us, and alhamdulillah for that

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

officer-down

Fucking lol

[–] roux@hexbear.net 29 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Is there a reason why they are shutting down? I mean good riddance and all but just curious.

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 54 points 2 days ago (1 children)

admin burnout from running a general lemmy instance they said, which makes sense since ee attracted the second most redditors from the migration

[–] roux@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago (2 children)

So, instead of shutting it down, why not just elect a new admin?

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 52 points 2 days ago (1 children)

they should do that honestly, and i think they should make @Alaskaball@hexbear.net an admin too https://hexbear.net/comment/5830180

[–] roux@hexbear.net 37 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They absolutely have my vote lol

[–] someone@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago

Seconded, may Alaskaball rule the conquered land with a merciless iron fist for a thousand years.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think Interim Admin u/juanguaido69 has the right idea

[–] Lyudmila@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Wonder what he's up to in Miami these days. Truly the premier city for all the worst people in LatAm to flee from the consequences of their actions. Remember that time when his own supporters got so pissed off they threw chairs at him?

sicko-wistful Miss you big man, you always made the news funny.

[–] Civility@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago
[–] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Did they even say why? Lol

[–] Lemmygradwontallowme@hexbear.net 42 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Why this is happening

The key reason is that we just don’t have enough people on the admin team to keep the place running. Most of the admin team has stepped down, mostly due to burnout, and finding replacements hasn’t worked out.

The sad reality is that while there are a lot of great people on Lemmy, there are also some who use the platform to attack others, stir up conflict, or actively try to undermine the project. Admins are volunteers who deal with the latter group on a constant basis, this takes a mental toll. Please understand why our admins chose to step down, and be kind to the admins on whatever instance you decide to join.

Oof... did we strike a nerve? Well, at least they didn't defed...

[–] mathemachristian@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I very much doubt this is because of us, and I dont know why everyones celebrating this as if "our posting power" did this when the admins of that instance have been nice to us afaik. I think it's because of genuinely bad actors otherwise they would have just defedded.
