Bit conspiracy idea: The fall of the Soviet Union was staged to cover up the Soviet Union entering its Dengist era

We will unlock a new kind of lib that insists the old Soviet Union was exactly the same as the new one led by putin

[–] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 41 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I've heard takes like this, that le evil Putin wants to resurrect USSR

[–] underisk@hexbear.net 46 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Yeah it’s shockingly prevalent. They must literally just do free association “communism bad, Putin bad, Putin want communism!” to reach that conclusion because I cannot imagine how else you come to it.

It seems to be the majority view among Russia-fearing libs, I've heard it for a while. I believe it mostly comes from a speech they reference from 2011ish where he mentions something like restoring the old glory of the Soviet Union, then they believe his actions since then are part of his plan to recapture the same USSR as before, a totalitarian hellhole ruled by oligarchs in their mind.

The word communism appears exactly 0 times in that article, so i guess they think that just gathering the physical remnants of the USSR means that you summon back it’s government like Exodia.

Russian presidential adviser Anton Kobyakov asserted at a press conference [on 2025-05-21] that the Soviet Union "still legally exists."

the dissolution of the Soviet Union was carried out in a manner that many legal experts argue was fundamentally flawed

spoilerIt's just legal shenanigans, sadly.

If the Soviet Union was not legally dissolved, then the Ukrainian crisis, for example, could be viewed as an internal matter rather than an international conflict.

Would be an incredible move forward for global Socialism if the RF and Ukraine joined into a Socialist union. If only.

Edit: clarifying that both the RF and Ukraine are absolutely not Socialist now, and a simple merge would not be a huge win for Socialism, a merge and becoming Socialist would.

[–] propter_hog@hexbear.net 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Probably not. Russia isn't socialist.

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I'm aware, the implementation of USSR 2 implies the "Soviet Socialist" parts as well. That's more what I was meaning, not that the RF is anything close to Socialist right now.

If Jiang Zemin was still alive and on twitter I think he would have been best friends with Medvedev just based on shitposting prowess.

[–] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 30 points 1 month ago

Honestly the entire thing should be red. That was the point of ukraine! It was a buffer zone!

Hey, it worked for Israel

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago

Should've had the Hungarians, Slovaks, and the Poles also steal some land for themselves in the name of protecting ukraine from russian imperialism. That'd be more realistic
