i can make a much cheaper, less complex, and perfectly accurate version of this that automatically sorts waste based on its final destination: it’s just a trash can and it all goes to the dump because recycling isn’t profitable :(

Mostly right except for aluminum and maybe PET #1 plastics. Glass should be washed and the bottles reused. It would be informative to the average person if it said “plastic, not recyclable “ so that people know for everything except PET.
What makes aluminum cans so unique is that they are often recycled back into themselves, containing nearly 70% recycled material. That is 3 times more than plastic or glass. This translates into the can’s leaving a good environmental footprint. It also has a high value for re-selling, making recycling programs possible. Scrap aluminum gets $1367 per ton, as compared to plastic that only gets $310, and glass actually gets $0 per ton. Cans are also getting lighter, while continuing to stay durable. This leads to better efficiency for shipping, and eventually less waste.
Why is this a shit post? This is like straight out of Silicon Valley.
more like trash post
But it does seem rather ineffective and way too expensive. What happens if you put two different items there?
So we all agree that it's peak Silicon Valley.
If anyone puts two different items there at the same time, straight to jail.
And it won't be long until someone spills something on the flap and it becomes sticky. Or an item is too large and gets stuck.
Me: Throws picture of Ex
Bin: Doesn't move
Screen: "Take her back. Is this correct?"
I was waiting for an "inappropriate" item to be thrown in.
Two questions.
Griffindor?
.. And what does it select for a pigeon?
So you can only throw away one thing at a time
Dope. It’s all going straight to a land fill anyway.
🙄 number 1 argument of people who don’t recycle because they don’t give a fuck
The problem is that recycling is a highly inefficient process, propped up by lying ass oil barons who couldn't give a shit about the planet, and care only about profits.
And it's also likely going into the same landfill. We need to go back to the drawing board regarding plastic and waste.
Some countries have more encouraging results than others. But yea, if there’s no economical incentive, few companies will do it. Let's tax non-recycled material 👀
Nuclear waste, was that correct?
