OK, I'm not a Republican (not even an American). Am I missing a subtext to this which would make it more than a funny little story about a child being worried that six is too late in life for a career change?

Firefighter is a terrible career, better to change to being a nepotism baby asap. If you see an expensive car rolling down the street jump in front and hope they adopt you or pay for college.

Stick to blackmail with at least one dead man switch they're aware of.
