This is nothing new, this is what the US empire has been doing for a long long time now.

"The word will go out to the nations of the world that it may be dangerous to be America's enemy, but to be America's friend is fatal." -Henry Kissinger

The one that should get their military aid suspended is Israel.

[–] easily3667@lemmus.org 2 points 4 days ago

You tell him!

[–] Windhover@lemmy.world 18 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Should be “Trump Cuts Aid As Planned, Cites Fake Drama”

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago

NYT doesn't do real journalism anymore, they just report on the narrative.

[–] QuarterSwede@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

What a toddler.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world -1 points 4 days ago (2 children)

American alliances and soft power destroyed in a single month.

Thanks conservative traitors.

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's always adorable the way liberals try to 'no u' conservative hypernationalism. "Actually sir, you're the traitor!"

[–] GhostPepper@lemmy.ml -3 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Ukraine can't have peace without security guarantees and Russia withdraws from all of its land since 2014. Russia must also pay reparations and be held accountable for war crimes.

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 9 points 5 days ago

Well, given that most of that will never happen, I suppose Ukraine can't have peace then. Unfortunate for them that you have decided that.

[–] Dengalicious@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 4 days ago

War crimes lol, war crimes like saving Donbas from mass murder by fanatic Ukrainian nationalists?

[–] Simmy@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 4 days ago

Please tell me about Russian war crimes, aside from what you hear on western media.

The question sounds like a joke because the laws are long dead, but isn't it illegal to do? Like, he's not supposed to be able to even do it.

[–] easily3667@lemmus.org 3 points 4 days ago

Congress has refused to do anything for a decade or so in an attempt to push more power to the executive branch.

[–] Petter1@lemm.ee 3 points 5 days ago (7 children)

I still wonder how there is no big resistance already in US.. Maybe organisation needs some time?
How can you just continue living while your country gets converted into a dictatorship?
So strange

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Has something fundamentally changed?

[–] Petter1@lemm.ee -2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Well, I think the corruption was never as obvious as now

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

okay the mask is off, but has something fundamentally changed? the US was still an oligarchy before trump.

Watching from here, It feels like, it got way worse

I mean when did a president last use executive order that aren’t in line with law? (Law is job of congress, not president and executive orders in theory must be based on law, else the executive should have not been valid.

Additionally, when did a president last kill a institution of the state ordered to exist by congress, by just taking away all resources, so that the institution has no way to work anymore, even tho the government has the job offering what those institutions did deliver by law.

Executive orders are not above the law. This seems not enforced anymore, and if I was American, I think that would have been the last push I needed.

Edit: forgot all these pardons of all those terrible people to seemingly build his own SS, now that they owe their liberty to trump
Time is running out

[–] AntiOutsideAktion@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

Biden doubled child poverty with a penstroke and took 20 million people of medicaid but it takes trump halting the arming of a nazi army for petty reasons for you to wonder where the resistance is.

Please go back to brunch.

[–] Petter1@lemm.ee 1 points 4 days ago

Hu? I mean, like the flaws of the US “democracy” are now so obviously visible, and yet, it seems no one is really resisting. Or do I miss something?

[–] Highflyer33f@lemmy.ml 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Sigh, where to begin. Maybe check back in 30-90 days after social security payments start coming up missing...By then they will either fight or die on the streets homeless. I am just young enough to survive working till I die like our feudal crypto overlords demand.

[–] Petter1@lemm.ee 2 points 5 days ago

Yea, I really wonder what will happen next

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

How can you just continue living while your country gets converted into a dictatorship?

You do nothing, which is easy.

[–] stink@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The American public has been neutered.

The water has been slowly boiling us alive and we are too scared to give up our fake liberties to do anything about it.

Yes, we don't own anything any more, homeless rates are the highest we've seen in almost a decade, and most of us barely make enough to afford rent every month, but most americans are fine to be complicit with this as long as we get our endless supply of funko pops and doordash.

The individualistic culture of the US has me seriously doubt any real forms of organizing, and if there ever would be one, it would be extremely easy for bad actors to fracture any unity movement.

This is just from my perspective as an American who has seen my "friends", neighbors, and coworkers become more complicit every day.

[–] Petter1@lemm.ee 2 points 5 days ago

That is so crazy, but I guess, this is what happens if a government doesn’t invest enough to get people educated..

No democracy without educated demos(https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/demos)

[–] stray@pawb.social 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

At least half the population buys into the "fake news" shit about how Trump never did anything wrong and all of this is somehow making more jobs for Americans. I'm not kidding. I have this argument too often. I don't know what to do about it. It's so frustrating and depressing.

[–] Petter1@lemm.ee 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

Many people of America are just not educated enough…

Not dumb, bur veeery uneducated

To an extent, that they are not able to reason scientifically, but just believe what they want.

[–] Nalivai@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

When people are just miserable enough to not have energy to do anything esle but survive, but not miserable enough to have nothing to lose, they can't self-organise for shit, and that's a very exploitative human characteristic.

[–] Petter1@lemm.ee 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

That is true, and that is why American people have to act now, it only gets worse from now. See Nazi Germany with Hitler as a warning! The “left” people of Germany waited too long for action and then it was too late. The Nazis were already killing opposition: https://www.insidehook.com/culture/death-white-rose-nazis-turned-guillotine-execute-students

Hey now, you can’t forget the standing ovation for Yaroslav Hunka country

[–] SkyeStarfall@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I can't speak for all the officials there, but many of them very much have been directly elected

The Norwegian one for example is the prime minister

[–] CyberMonkey404@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Alright, I'll bite. Was it a direct election? Or more like the British "choose one of the two parties that are openly against the people, and then they'll choose the boss"?

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Alternatively like in Poland "17 parties and 40+ independents but every single one is neoliberal, US bootlicker and probanderite"

[–] m532@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 5 days ago

The one from my country is an unelected
