Summary

Trump vowed to pardon individuals jailed for their role in the January 6 Capitol attack on his first day in office, reiterating his campaign promise.

Trump criticized the justice system and the conditions faced by those detained, many of whom pleaded guilty.

Over 1,500 people have been charged in connection with January 6.

Trump also discussed empowering his incoming Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel to investigate political rivals.

President Biden is reportedly considering preemptive pardons for key figures targeted by Trump.

He wants to deport “illegal” immigrants because they’re allegedly “violent criminals,” but is about to pardon the white men & women who violently tried to overthrow the US government.

I hate it here.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

I just don't try and make sense of it much anymore

[–] auzy@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I really wish cool Americans like you would move here to Australia, and we could just export all of our wankers

Easy there — you already filled up your quota with Rupert Murdoch.

[–] chakan2@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I'm game, you have healthcare...which I'll need for all the shit down there trying to kill me.

[–] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 89 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

He's a terrorist. A literal terrorist. He wants absolute control through fear, intimidation, and violence.

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sounds like Biden would be more than justified to take care of Donald through an official act of the president.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I wonder what Biden would look like in a hoodie

Osama bin Laden killed around 2,977 directly and many others indirectly. Trump killed a lot more with his cuts to benefits and his abysmal covid response, and emboldening of many, many of the vilest elements of society. But guess what? He is still walking free even if he has been convicted of 34 felonies and is guilty of many others (including violent ones) and by all accounts should be spending the rest of his life in prison.

Osama was a chump compared to Trump.

[–] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The number I've seen is 800,000 dying due to the shitty Covid response compared to other countries. If even a fraction of that is accurate, it's a staggering number.

[–] daddy32@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Good news was supposed these were mostly his voters, but that doesn't seem to have worked well.

[–] Phoenicianpirate@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago

I remember shortly before new years 2020, around Christmas time, Trump's administration cut a lot of funding for Meals on Wheels programs that would have fed thousands of people. It was as if he was desperate to be the ultimate scrooge.

[–] PoopSpiderman@lemmy.world 84 points 2 weeks ago

What a fucking asshole.

[–] GiddyGap@lemm.ee 55 points 1 week ago

I still can't believe that January 6th ended up meaning absolutely nothing to voters. Nothing. Wild.

If I were independently wealthy I would no shit move to another country as soon as I could possibly get my family out. This is going to be a rough four years, at an absolute, very optimistic, minimum.

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 18 points 2 weeks ago

If you were rich enough you could just pay to eliminate the problem entirely

[–] TheFonz@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

If you have Any italian heritage, you can claim citizenship if you have some paperwork. We also have a nomad visa. Come on over

[–] rational_lib@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Eh it'll be two years before he loses control of congress, and he's also very, very stupid to the point where he will have a hard time accomplishing his worst ideas. Of course there will be lots of bad decisions and people dying of those bad decisions, but that's just what we call America.

[–] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 week ago

I'm still in camp "what if there's not another presidential election that isn't an obvious sham."

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

The democratic leadership is having a helluva battle right now between the old guard and some of the younger members. The Old guard maintains Harris ran a perfect campaign and voters let them down. The most visible indicator to the general public of who won will be how the committee minority leader seats shake out. Here's hoping they manage to win and get some change. There's no president anchoring them down so this is usually when it happens. But if the old guard wins expect another campaign of nothing more than "Not Trump".

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

They’ve been having that battle for 30 years with nothing to show for it, I don’t see what will change now.

[–] HubertManne@moist.catsweat.com 9 points 2 weeks ago

I would have done that eight years ago.

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 44 points 2 weeks ago

What a god damn waste of time... Every breath this fucking idiot takes is a tragedy.

[–] Pyrin@kbin.melroy.org 33 points 2 weeks ago

Another instance of - We knew this.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 30 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The more justice is denied, the more people will turn to vigilantism. The two attempts against Trump (so far) and the United Health CEO assassination are merely examples.

Trump is absolutely inciting violence with this act.

[–] limelight79@lemm.ee 26 points 1 week ago

Wait, I thought those were liberals posing as right wingers in order to discredit the MAGA people! Now he's going to pardon them? Whose side is he on, anyway?

[–] Nunar@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago (2 children)

He's about to set a terrible precedent

America really likes its precedents .. shit like this has to be constrained by law

[–] ALoafOfBread@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Precedents. Have you heard about these? The radical antifa liberal communists have said that decisions from the past should determine laws in the fyoo-chure. Crazy. That's cray-zy. We won't let crooked Joe's corrupt socialist judges decide what laws we can make. The founding fathers are dead. That's what our failing public schools say. Possibly like Hannibal Lecter. Can someone in the crooked media fact check me?They love to fact-check me. I have the best facts. Is Hannibal Lecter dead? But the founding fathers. George Washington. Wa. Shing. Ton. What a man. 100% man. The ladies might need to cover their ears for this one, but George Washington had a tremendous hog. The biggest dick you've ever seen, folks. And he fucked, too. We love our founding fathers (turns around and salutes toward the back of the stage, does a stupid dance as he turns around again). George Washington wrote a little thing called the con-sti-tu-shun. You may have heard of it - crooked Joe doesn't want you to know about it, but I love the constitution - it says that I should pardon all of the brave January 6 patriots. Many people are saying this. Democrats don't believe in the constitution, so they won't pardon them. Only I will pardon them. I have the best pardons. But Parton. Dolly Parton. Did you know the kids don'tknow about Dolly Parton...

[–] knobbysideup@sh.itjust.works 20 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I am beyond tired of hearing about this orange pile of shit's dumbfuckery and he's not even in office yet.

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

A traitor pardoning traders. What a shock!

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Maybe they gave him a good price. You know how it is with these business types.

[–] Hadriscus@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago

are these the traders, Walter ?

[–] ninekeysdown@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

I hope it’s either written so broadly that it covers everyone in the US on that day or it’s so narrow that it only applies to like 6 people. Because that would really fit the theme of the shit show that is combining

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Let's see if he actually does. These people offer him nothing. Why would he?

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Theatrics. It says to his supporters that they're allowed to do anything they want without having to worry about the law

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Ah! Now that makes sense.

[–] NutWrench@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 week ago

Trump is NOT going to pardon the Jan 6th rioters. Everything with Trump is transactional. Those rioters failed to deliver the presidency for him. In his mind, they are "suckers and losers." He can always find another group of idiots to do illegal stuff for him.

[–] cows_are_underrated@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hes about to have a very busy first day.

[–] Hoomod@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Probably the only busy day he'll have based on his last presidency
