What is that concept called about society having a collective short term memory?

This comment just reeks of vibes. She's extremely accomplished and intelligent. She wasn't the most hilarious or charming person, but again, that's not what I look for in a leader.

I never understand comments like these. She was elected senator of California. She was an AG. Her list of accomplishments is available on Wikipedia for free. What does a black woman have to do to prove herself in this day?

I've only seen this phenomenon on Lemmy where it's a hard stance all or nothing about every hot topic. Also, I think many here are privileged people. After all, it's not the Lemmy user's families being abducted at immigration hearings or whose kids are losing their only meal option because Republicans ended school lunches. So they yap all day about the genocide in Gaza, don't bother to vote and the cycle repeats. Because in the end, they personally are not affected

I'm not the one going out of my way ostrasizing every liberal and bitching 24/7 about capitalism. It's the only thing I see on Lemmy. Don't tell me it's not true.

Contraction incoming or nah?

Haha just spend five minutes on Lemmy. People here be writing essays and bitching 24/7. Cmon now, let's be real. It's not like lefties are doing much to build coalitions and power in the states. Other places, yes.

Im leaning towards two separate machines as well. I think that's the route I'll go in the end

I've moved half my toolset to free and open source alternatives. I've ditched Adobe which has a monopoly on the entire market. Sadly, there are no alternative BIM/CAD tools that can take on Autodesk (yet).

I was thinking this too. Might get a second desktop and set that up

Haha Ok let me send a memo to the whole global architecture community and ask them to switch to something different

Thanks. I am a freelancer but I depend on the platforms my clients work with.

Hi,

I'm considering transitioning completely to Linux for my main workstation. However, due to the nature of my work I rely extensively on a few Autodesk products (namely AutoCAD, Revit) as well as Ms OneDrive to coordinate with clients. I did some research and these applications are not available natively and can't run through Wine. So I was thinking setting up a virtual machine with a windows image in order to run these two programs. They don't need extensive GPU. I was wondering if there are any obstacles / issues I should be aware if I chose to go this route? Thanks!

These monkeys went bananas: 40 monkeys escaped from a research facility in South Carolina, and local authorities on Wednesday warned residents to stay away.

“Residents are strongly advised to keep doors and windows secured to prevent these animals from entering homes,” the Yemassee police department said on Facebook this week. “If you spot any of the escaped animals, please contact 911 immediately and refrain from approaching them.”

The monkeys that absconded were from the Alpha Genesis research center, which bills itself as “primate research specialists”. Police said that they have set up traps around the area and are “utilizing thermal imaging cameras in an attempt to locate the animals”.

My experience on this platform has been mixed so far but one thing I've noticed the most is a significant contingent of the user base is really reactionary in their discourse.

This is a very typical exchange I have here :

User: I don't like this color because it's red.

Me: I don't know, looks more like purple to me. What about red is bad?

User: Why don't you fuck yourself in the face you fucking cuntfuck!

Me: OK...

Like, what gives? I don't have this experience on other platforms. I have arguments but never this shutdown meccanism.

I don't know if others are experiencing a similar situation. My all feed is very sparse with engagement. If I sort top six hours or by top 12 most posts have between 5-10 comments. I feel like there was more in the past? Is engagement dropping off? I'm on lemmy.world as my instance.

At least on Reddit there was some leveling of downvotes built into the algorithm. This site is making it seem like any slight disagreement leads to downvotes thus encouraging more echo chambers. Maybe it's the communities I'm commenting on?
