Like Microsoft enabling existing customers to download Win11 for free but I'd need a fucking new computer so I'll switch to Linux when support for 10 ends ?

I mean I am, but not because of Linux. I think Microsoft is just actively leaving out a lot of people on the planet and a lot will switch. It will become more and more normal

A lot in Linux numbers, but not in windoes numbers. I hope it changes but my hopes are low.

That was a good pun, bravo!

Enabling as in justifying something that normally cannot be justified.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Enabling is more than justification. It's behavior that fuels another behavior.

Giving a dog a treat every time he rolls over, is enabling the dog to roll over more often.

Giving a junky cash for "groceries" every time they're in a pinch, is enabling their drug use.

That's 100% what I mean. I didn't have the right words for it though.

My mom towards my brother. He's 37 and has no job, smokes weed and plays video games all day. My mom is 70. No idea what he plans to do when she inevitably passes, but I've outright told him he's not moving in with me and I'm not supporting him.

My mom though, it's truly a mess of her own making. She harbors a lot of guilt towards picking our father, even though the worst thing he did to us was be uninterested/eventually leave... Still, she has it in her head that making my brother do anything he doesn't want to is abandoning him in a way, so she lets him do whatever, pays for it, and tell him all the time nothing is his fault and that he doesn't have to change.

I love my mom, but damn.

Someone overfeeding their cat and then washing its ass because it’s too fat to clean itself anymore. Then the cat promptly having a heart attack. Then yarding feed dishes out of all the areas of the house where it was unnecessary to be overfeeding the cat.

Also stopped taking the cat to vet checkups likely because the vet told her to stop over feeding the cat.

wherein the owner was still insistent this was all quite normal pet care.

I used to work at pet hospitals. This sort of owner behavior isn't common, but it happens more than you'd think.

Kid that didn’t know how to put ketchup on his hotdog.
