When danger reared its ugly head, Brave Sir Robin turned his tail and fled

[–] cjoll4@lemmy.world 39 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Yes Brave Sir Robin turned about and gallantly he chickened out. Bravely taking to his feet, he beat a very brave retreat. Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!

"In the frozen land of Nador, they were forced to eat Sir Robin's minstrels... and there was much rejoicing."

His head smashed in and his heart cut out.

And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged.

And his nostrils raped and his bottom burnt off.

And his penis-

I've done it again.

Count to what to throw the holy hand grenade?

5 is right out

[–] RavenFellBlade@startrek.website 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, 'O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy.' And the Lord did grin. And the people did feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats, and large chulapas...

And the Lord spake, saying, ''First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.'

Immortal words!

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well, it's certainly not 2.

[–] shottymcb@lemm.ee 5 points 2 weeks ago

Lest thy then proceed to three.

Is brother Maynard still with the party? No? Shame.

[–] TheRealKuni@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

Fun fact, the chants in that movie are the same words, just different chant tones.

“Merciful Lord Jesus, grant them rest”

When the monks are smacking themselves in the face, it’s a very mournful tone (fitting, since these words come from the Requiem, or funeral mass).

Monks: “Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem” *smack* “Pie Jesu Domine” *smack* “Dona eis requiem” *smack* (repeat

And when the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch is being brought forth, it’s a call and response chant with a much more triumphant tone (which doesn’t fit the words, but is comical):

Call: “Pie Jesu Domine:”

Response: “Dona eis requiem!”

(Repeat)

Could someone please explain?? Thank you in advance!

[–] PennyRoyal@sh.itjust.works 71 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

In the cave of Caerbannog, death awaits you, with nasty big pointy teeth! See Monty Python and the Holy Grail for further details.

So I finally watched this movie and I can’t believe how much fun I had! Is there any similar modern British tv shows or films I could watch??

[–] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If you enjoyed the Holy Grail, then you should definitely watch Monty Python and the Life of Brian. If your whistle needs further wetting, Monty Python and the Meaning of Life, followed by Monty Python's Flying Circus ought to do the trick.

[–] darthsid@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Thank you!!

It's a classic for a reason! I don't think many modern movies capture the same style of humor, but I second Life of Brian.

They're not British, but if you haven't seen all the Mel Brooks classics, I consider them close enough too.

What an eccentric performance.

[–] Gork@lemm.ee 38 points 2 weeks ago

Rolling for initiative means that a combat phase has begun. This will determine whether you, or the bunny, will attack first.

[–] deaf_fish@lemm.ee 10 points 2 weeks ago

Doom music starts to play and you realize you're not the main character....

[–] zephorah@lemm.ee 6 points 2 weeks ago

This makes me think of Harmon Quest.

[–] Overforest@ttrpg.network 4 points 1 week ago

Let's be honest here, this is a tpk. Even if someone in the party has the Holy Hand Grenade, they sure as the hells aren't remembering that they do.

[–] myrrh@ttrpg.network 3 points 2 weeks ago

...we were ambushed by a vorpal bunny a couple of years ago; managed to grapple the vicious beast and drop it down an open well...

[–] EmpeRohrOn@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

what do you think is the statblock of the bunny?

[–] psud@aussie.zone 2 points 1 week ago

It took an area effect weapon (1 holy hand grenade of Antioch) to defeat it, so it probably has excellent AC and high hit points
