"Dear Mr. Speaker,
Demonstrate as much opposition to Russian money and influence in your politics, and I will happily consider your request.
Sincerely,
Volodymyr"
"we refer you to the answer given in Arkell vs. Pressdram"
https://proftomcrick.com/2014/04/29/arkell-v-pressdram-1971/
Dear Sir,
We act for Mr Arkell who is Retail Credit Manager of Granada TV Rental Ltd. His attention has been drawn to an article appearing in the issues of Private Eye dated 9th April 1971 on page 4. The statements made about Mr Arkell are entirely untrue and clearly highly defamatory. We are therefore instructed to require from you immediately your proposals for dealing with the matter.
Mr Arkell’s first concern is that there should be a full retraction at the earliest possible date in Private Eye and he will also want his costs paid. His attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of your reply.
Yours etc.
~Reply:~
Dear Sirs,
We acknowledge your letter of 29th April referring to Mr J. Arkell.
We note that Mr Arkell’s attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of our reply and would therefore be grateful if you could inform us what his attitude to damages would be, were he to learn that the nature of our reply is as follows: fuck off.
Yours etc.
Huh. TIL
Nice
Meanwhile Trump tries his best to interfere with Ukraine aid and has been since the beginning. Fuck him and the other Putin dick riders in Congress. You get what you deserve.
The same guy who invited Netanyahu to Congress, going around the president to do so?
He doesn't give a shit about touring the facility, he's whining he and his compatriots were justifiably relegated to the kids table because they aren't serious, responsible adults or politicians. Fuck Mike Johnson.
Holy fuck wow. Flat out on letterhead.
Fuck all Republicans.
Mike Johnson can go fuck himself
He's a Russian plant, I almost guarantee it.
It's really hard not to think / conclude that. Even looking past different political ideologies.
Very unlikely. Personally compromised by russia, possible. Close to people compromised by russia and thus his decisions are effected by russian interests, I’d say almost probably but not quite to the 90% threshold.
Well, he is a Republican so that is a safe bet.
No, he covers for and services Russian plants.
Distinction without a distance, but still.
Pissy that the Ambassador didn't involve Republicans in a tour, while Republicans have been doing everything they can to force the Ambassador's home country to lose a war of aggression against them.
Why the fuck WOULD the Ambassador invite Republicans?
Russian stooge says what?
Meanwhile Russia's spraying the country with a firehose of lies, and illegally funneling money in to influence the election. IIRC Johnson got a hefty campaign donation from Russia, which he had to return when it was noticed.
But no, this is clearly the real outrage. Just because he didn't endorse any politician or party and didn't appear with any presidential candidate doesn't mean that this wasn't obviously election interference. Just look what he's doing, reminding people that Ukraine exists and shaking hands with American workers who build the shells that are helping to save his country. What could be more sinister?
For real though, the pro-Putin wing is desperate to spin this story because it clearly shows how full of shit they are when they bitch about spending money on Ukraine instead of keeping it in the US. Supporting Ukraine isn't just good for upholding the international order, safeguarding allies, and degrading Russia's capabilities for remarkably little cost, but it's also supporting domestic manufacturing jobs.
Mike is barely in control of his party, just ignored them and Donnie by "funding the government" (what a controversy!) and is probably about to lose his job (either by his party, or by election). Zelenskyy should not pay this stunt much attention; just have someone privately tell them what they want to hear, and carry on.
Republicans are such babies. I don't know what they expected lmao
Speaker Mike Johnson can go outside and play hide and go fuck himself.
You can "not want to spend time with someone" for reasons other than what their politics are.
Hey dicknose, you don’t get to make those decisions for other countries.
...What? Have the Rs (pronounced "arse," I guess) given up on pretending to be at all capable of reason? What even... ugh. 🤷 🤦
Everything not aRse is an OUTRAGE.
Fuck off, Mike.
Love, Z
(this needs to be the response)
Jesus tapdancing christ Johnson is such a fucking tool
Johnson is a Putin's puppet
made the stop political in nature.
ok? so?
I don't agree with speaker gooning dad on much, if anything, including his rationale for this request.
But, I do think it was a bad move from a policy and governing perspective to have a foreign leader touring our weapon factories that are supporting their hot war with a major geostrategic rival of ours.
I'm not saying this for domestic political reasons, or moral reasons, I think from a pure realpolitik perspective of someone who supports Ukraine, it wasn't a smart move.
But, I could be wrong, maybe it helps Ukraine in the long-term, or maybe it has no impact at all. Maybe we'll never know, I just know that doesn't sit right with me personally.
Regardless, my personal feelings aren't relevant to, and I genuinely hope this does end up being a net positive action.
I actually felt it was...odd as well.
Just out of place. I support Ukraine and believe we should be contributing to their war effort but felt like his visit was ill-timed, especially given the fact that Pennsylvania is a swing state and he was visiting an ammunition factory which likely has MAGAs in it.
Honestly, I am surprised he didn't have any incidents.
I don't know if the political affiliation of the employees matters in this context, but I would guess that people who work in the MIC would be significantly more likely to support Ukraine, MAGA or not.
Either way, I just don't see the political upside to his visit, but I can see a lot of potential downside.
I can also see a world where in the end, it makes no difference at all, guess we'll have to wait to find out either way.
