How do you eat this fruit called kiwi?

After more than 30 years using a small spoon, I changed. Now I'm eating the whole fruit including the skin.

I just bite into it like an apple.

People are often disgusted, which just makes it taste all the sweeter.

[–] sunbrrnslapper@lemmy.world 18 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I, too, eat kiwis this way.

4, at minimum

[–] alphacyberranger@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

I don't think people of New Zealand will appreciate you biting them.

Do it with a banana or a pineapple to really freak people out. Watermelons and pomegranates are also options.

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 2 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Citrus, in particular grapefruit, would be also a good option to freak out people

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago

Grapefruit and navel oranges aren't that bad. The worst ones are thin leathery peels like mandarins

Wait, this isn't how everyone else eats them?

[–] theherk@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

But how do you eat apples? I eat the whole thing, ass first, pit and all.

I'm weird. I cut the skin off, eat the flesh, then eat the skin. There's just a different texture between the two and I like to experience them individually.

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 10 points 2 months ago

I will try this once, just because of this thread.

But until then, I disagree and you're a monster

[–] TwinTusks@bitforged.space 13 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Why is everyone eating the skin?

I lick mine for several weeks until I get to the centre.

[–] MrsDoyle@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 months ago

I cut it in half and kind of gnaw the innards out. I don't eat the skin, too fuzzy. I think some of modern kiwifruit have smoother skins, but I've been eating them since they were called Chinese gooseberries and to me they're forever fuzzy.

[–] AsudoxDev@programming.dev 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Is the skin even edible? I hate peeling that, which is why I use a spoon.

[–] cristo@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Skin is edible just a little fuzzy

I cut them in half and jam them into my mouth and use my teeth to scrape along the inside of the skin.

[–] Zozano@lemy.lol 8 points 2 months ago

I do the same with rats

[–] I_Miss_Daniel@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Yellow ones I eat skin and all.

Green ones get hollowed out with the thinnest teaspoon we have.

[–] aaaa@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (3 children)

People mention eating it whole... I at least shave the hair off it first.

[–] artichokecustard@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

schick? venus?

[–] Xyre@lemmus.org 4 points 2 months ago

Honestly, it has a better mouth feel when they're waxed.

Brush excess fuzz off with my hand, remove the ends and eat with skin on.

[–] mp3@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I cut both ends and slice it while keeping the skin on.

[–] MyTurtleSwimsUpsideDown@fedia.io 2 points 2 months ago

This, but sometimes I’ll roll a slice out of its skin as I eat it, like pulling the ripcord on a gyroscope. Then I’ll eat the strip of skin on its own. Only a monster licks the cream out of an Oreo and leaves the biscuit behind.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I just put them in my mouth and start chewing.

I like the fuzz and the sourness.

Use a knife to cut off the ends, then to slice away the skin. Finally, cut it into quarters and eat it.

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 months ago

Cut off both ends, slice in half, eat skin-on.

[–] PeriodicallyPedantic@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 months ago

I wish I could be so unfettered

[–] Stamau123@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Eat the whole thing. The skin is sour but in a good way, and has most of the nutrients.

[–] lvxferre@mander.xyz 3 points 2 months ago

Peel, slice, eat with a fork. I know that the skin is edible, I just don't like the texture.

[–] Heikki@lemm.ee 3 points 2 months ago

I suet to scoop aswell but now eat the whole thing. Started doing it after seeing a coworker do it. They said you don't notice it and gave me one of thiers. I tried it that way, and they were right. I didn't notice it.

[–] norimee@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Don't like the fuzziness of the skin, but I know you can eat it all.

Same as some people peel apples and some don't. Eat it how you want and don't worry what others do/think.

[–] KoalaUnknown@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I take the skin off with a potato peeler and then slice it.

I remove the sticker, wash it under the tap and one bite at a time, eat it whole.

I peel it and then eat it

you can also cut it in half and scoop it out if you like

[–] WhiteOakBayou@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Eat it whole. People who see me eat kiwis think I'm messing with them. I've never know different
