I don't get it. What does my mom's sexuality have to do with me? Also, why is sleeping with someone that's ~25 years older something to brag about?

In my opinion the reason it's supposedly insulting is rooted in misogyny. A woman is the property of her male relatives. When someone sleeps with her without the permission of these relatives, he uses their property without permission, demonstrating his power over them.

I do realise that many people use this insult because it's just something you say. But I think it's worth reflecting about what it actually is you are saying.

[–] iiGxC@slrpnk.net 18 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I think there's also a power aspect. Your mom is your parent, someone with some power or status over you, so if someone sleeps with her they're now on the level of your parents, it implies that you're no longer equal peers but a step-parent/child relationship

[–] sunzu@kbin.run 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

This is better analysis then the comment you re responding to IMHO.

[–] iiGxC@slrpnk.net 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I was trying to "yes, and" that comment 🤷

[–] sunzu@kbin.run 2 points 3 months ago

I know but I think it's the other way around and maybe

[–] Spuddlesv2@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 months ago (2 children)

If this were the case then “I fucked your dad” would be just as common an insult, with all the same connotations.

[–] datavoid@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I feel like most people who would do this (males trying to seem "alpha") probably wouldn't be comfortable saying that, for whatever reason.

[–] classic@fedia.io 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The whatever reason bring that they'd have played themselves because homophobia.

I imagine the potency of yo mama jokes that focus on banging her, as opposed to accentuating how ugly she is, comes from the discomfort of sexualizing someone that you want to not have sexualized given your intimacy with her. Reframing your mom as a sexual being rewrites the experience of affection with her, for example.

The ugliness piece devalues someone precious to you.

I also thinks it's just a rules of the game that people decide on and then forget. Participating in a game about who will gets upset, everyone implicitly agrees that this is something they can fall prey to having a reaction about. Sort of social game theory

[–] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 months ago

I dont think the kind of person who torments you with constant motherly disrespect in school would he fazed by the suggestion that they are homophobic since they only target your mother. That's not a good gotcha at all, at best they would laugh and agree with you.

[–] iiGxC@slrpnk.net 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

yeah those get thrown around in my friend group sometimes too. I think "i fucked your parent" jokes are usually made by straight dudes (which there's a lot to unpack there) though, so it's more common for them to go for the gender they're attracted to. Not always tho

I think the person I responded to isn't wrong, just that it's not the whole picture. I was/am trying to "yes, and" their comment

[–] hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

I think it's more than that. For some people their mom is their hero for taking care of them and they have a special love for her. Now if someone sleeps with my mom just to brag, the insult is that they did it just to brag about it and I am supposed to be angry because I know it wasn't genuinely someone who loves her.

[–] BearOfaTime@lemm.ee 1 points 3 months ago

🤦🏼‍♂️

The other misogynistic element is the Madonna/Whore complex, in my opinion.

Mothers are often classically viewed as the Madonna (it’s in the name), so they’re good and kind and virtuous.

However, I’ve insinuated that I fucked your mom, and if your mom has fucked, that means she’s a Whore because a Good Woman^tm^ doesn’t have a sexuality. By claiming that I’ve fucked your mom, I’m claiming to have defiled the sacred Madonna and turned her into a profane Whore.

In other words, saying “I fucked your mom” is basically saying “your mom’s a slut”, and in a worldview where women wanting to fuck is a sign of evil, that’s an insult.

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (3 children)

Well, once one in an adult, it becomes a bit silly for sure. But when we're kids, our parents are often the center of, if not the entirety of, our universe.

Since it's something attacking a fundamental building block of our identity (with the obvious caveat that there's exceptions to almost everything), and allowing someone to attack that is not something you can just shrug off when you're young, it becomes something bigger than its real import.

That often lingers into adulthood, where an attack on family is an attack on the self, as a matter of principle. If you allow those attacks to stand without any response, it can be taken as permission to do the same, or worse, again.

As such, anyone wanting to get a rise out of people can typically rely on mom disses to get the job done.

Your mom's sexuality isn't the core of the attack. That's just the window dressing to the real purpose, which is saying "you are lesser than me, and can not retaliate effectively when I attempt dominance". In the case of OP, as everyone knows, their mom is a total slag to begin with. That is regardless of who OP is.

As far as sleeping with someone older: doesn't matter; had sex. This is a simple rule of life, that if one is the sort to brag about sex at all, any and all sex is worth bragging about. To wit, I bang your mum then bang your drum. Which is to say that yo mama such a ho that her vag emits hawking radiation.

In other words, what's wrong with intercourse between two consenting adults of any age? While it is true that yo mama's pussy is so old that she queef mummy dust, it does not invalidate her value as a person or sexual partner. Moreover, just because yo mama so ugly tying a pork chop around her neck couldn't get dogs to play with her, does not mean she is not worthy of a good, deep dicking.

To the contrary, women of age enough to have a child old enough to ask this very question on a forum such as this likely have had a great deal of sex, and thus is an excellent choice of partner for the discerning gentleman, lady, or other. To rephrase, yo mama such a ho that they call her Chicken Coop because cocks be going in and out all day, so she know the good tricks, and she is so old the Flintstones moved out of her vagina to a better cave where they met the Rubbles.

There is no shame in your mother. Consider: she is the first person to be in both the NFL and NBA halls of fame for most balls taken to the face. Indeed, she is considered to be the greatest wide receiver ever to take on an entire team by herself. Sadly, she could not qualify as a tight end, as she is such a ho that they used to be called jumpolines before she got on one. Her name on the halls of fame plaques is Peanutbutter because she spreads so easy.

Besides, take pride that you have earned the envy of others by being such a wonderful person that they can't throw disses at you directly, and have to throw them at your mom the way I throw her the D every night.

Believe it or not, there was a serious answer in there.

Plutarch's biography of Cicero notes that:

Again, in a dispute with Cicero, Metellus Nepos asked repeatedly "Who is your father?" "In your case," said Cicero, "your mother has made the answer to this question rather difficult."

[–] snooggums@midwest.social 9 points 3 months ago

Because it makes them your daddy, like the other hundreds of xbox players that banged your mom.

It is an edgy 'your mom' joke that makes a lot of people angry. People get angry about a lot of stuff that is obviously untrue if it insults their in group like a family or social grouping. It was one of hundreds of illogical insults that took off because it gets a fairly reliable reaction.

[–] kibiz0r@midwest.social 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

For most of human history, and even today, much of our individual identity is heavily tied to our familial identity.

Saying that someone’s mother is especially promiscuous is basically saying that you can’t trust any claims about what their true family tree is, or that it is that way on purpose.

The reason the insulter would use themselves as an example is because they clearly don’t have any romantic interest in her.

It’s less about it being an accomplishment for the insulter, and more about it meaning nothing at all to them. That you may end up with a half-sibling as a consequence of nothing truly significant.

It’s as if to say that your family’s constintuency is so carelessly crafted that the entire reason you exist at all may be that someone offered your mom an Oreo for a handjob and she counter-offered with sex for the whole sleeve.

William the bastard claps in respect of your absolutely spot on answer.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I’ve always thought all mom disses were dumb af.

I didn’t run into them until I moved to a new school at 8yo where I guess they were popular and I was just like wtf are you talking about?

Yeah like "yo mamma is so fat that..."

"Yes, I am really worried that she will die bc of her diabetes".

"yo momma is so fat... never mind. Damn bro I'm so sorry to hear that!"

[–] willya@lemmyf.uk 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yo momma so ugly, when your dad drops her off at work he gets a fine for littering.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

If you’re gonna go for it anyway, could you at least be funny?

[–] willya@lemmyf.uk 2 points 3 months ago

Dunno, maybe I’m proving your point.

[–] deadcatbounce@reddthat.com 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

My mom was like that. 🤣😂

The publicly available children maintenance service data (UK) suggests that one in three people are calling the wrong person dad (about a third of challenged women claiming child maintenance from a random dude will be shown to be wrong by DNA).

Mum will try to deny it. Then DNA became a thing for pennies. Join an genealogy fb group and support the broken kids looking for their now-dead fathers.

[–] bjornsno@lemm.ee 1 points 3 months ago

That... seems to be a bit of a leap. You've got to assume that challenged women are representative of the whole population. To issue a challenge you probably have some reason to suspect.

[–] willya@lemmyf.uk 2 points 3 months ago

Do you care about your mom? If not it probably doesn’t hit like a good insult would.

[–] Today@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

It's just a funny comment like, "how's your wife and my kids" or "say hi to your sister for me."

[–] TheBananaKing@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I've always wondered if it's worse if she was good or bad in bed...

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 1 points 3 months ago

People are obsessed with sex and relationships. If who you have sex with, and who others have sex with is important, then it's one way to take advantage of that to hurt your feelings.

Anything you care about can be used to insult you with: nationality, ethnicity, sexuality, relationship, status, hobby, intellect, etc.

[–] Coreidan@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Dunno but I’ll let you know once I’m done banging your mom
