Not only is he alive, he is not even in prison and is looking to run again...

[–] Th4tGuyII@kbin.social 43 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I also find it odd that his best chance of going to prison isn't even related to the fact he tried to stage a coup.
Any other person, it would've been treason and locked up for life (if not a death sentence) for even trying - no question needed.

Well, there's also a weirdly huge number of people in places of power that're on his side, and there's nothing to be done about it.

[–] db2@sopuli.xyz 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

There is, but we don't have the stomach for it. France did it once.

[–] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We could have the stomach for it, but we'd have to get through a shitload of rednecks, good ol' boys, and the military & police.

[–] Starshader@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

That's funny because that's also what you will say the next time he will be in power and won't leave. Y'all need to revolt before you pikachu face into a dictature.

[–] Rambi@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Hasn't France had like 5 revolutions lol

[–] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not to mention that a lot of federal judges are people he literally put in power

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

Sounds like quite the flaw in the system.

[–] UnverifiedAPK@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

That's typically how a coup takes place.

[–] baggachipz@sh.itjust.works 43 points 1 year ago

The mind truly boggles

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Presumably because he's somewhere in the bush with his so called "revolutionary rebel army".

[–] Ser_Salty@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Somewhere in the George W Bush?

[–] LoamImprovement@ttrpg.network 3 points 1 year ago

Among the bushes.

[–] Pasta4u@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Dan quale is running again ?

[–] Pasta4u@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Stacy Abraham running again ?

[–] darthelmet@lemmy.world 79 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Because he’s right wing? This isn’t that complicated. People only get killed for actually threatening the gravy train. If this were another country the US would have backed the coup. Im still not convinced this will end with anything more serious than Trump getting a vacation in rich people jail.

[–] TunaCowboy@lemmy.world 45 points 1 year ago

Trump getting a vacation in rich people jail.

You've got pretty high hopes for the land of the greed.

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 28 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I think he will never set foot in jail, the u.s government won't allow it. He'll be pardoned, or at the very best he'll be convicted but will spend the rest of his life appealing, until he dies by big Mac overdose

[–] trafficnab@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The president can't pardon state level charges

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That state's future governor can.

[–] Drusas@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Not in Georgia.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

If the president could pardon state level crimes, I could see Joe Biden pardoning Donald Trump in order to "let the nation heal"

And Trump would thank him by calling him "No Go Joe" and demanding that second amendment people do something about him.

[–] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 46 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Which is exactly why I know the whole "Clintons murdering people" is a conspiracy.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 27 points 1 year ago

Conservatives know this is a lie. They only make such accusations as it would suit them to be true, in order to justify what they plan to do.

[–] seitanic@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 year ago (4 children)

What train of logic led from "Trump is still alive" to "the Clintons must be murdering people"?

[–] Hyggyldy@sffa.community 29 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I believe what they mean is "If the Clintons really are having people killed then what the fuck is Trumpleton doing still walking around?" And seriously, if anything righties cook up in their fear-addled minds was remotely true there'd be so many more dead people in both the citizenry and amongst politicians.

[–] seitanic@lemmy.sdf.org -2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They said that they know it's a conspiracy, which means they believe that it's happening.

[–] ImInLoveWithLife@lemm.ee 15 points 1 year ago

I think the word 'conspiracy' here is being conflated to mean 'ridiculous, and false, conspiracy theory'. Conspiracies happen, but the word itself has the association with those who theorize and speculate on the absurd. I can say I don't know for sure what the original commenter meant, but I think it is implied they meant they 'know the Clinton's murdering people isn't true'.

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I think they mean that if the Clintons were actually murderers, trump wouldn’t be alive post-coup attempt.

[–] EmptySlime@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 year ago

I think they mean that if it were actually true and Republicans could prove it the Clintons would be dead? Not sure it's a little hard to parse.

[–] OurToothbrush@lemmy.ml -4 points 1 year ago

That isnt good reasoning. It is a big club and you're not in it, Clinton and Trump knew each other.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 14 points 1 year ago

Unfortunately America is way too concerned with decorum in order to actually follow the rule of law. There is this idea that if we just simply pretend that everything is fine and that are enemies simply have different ideas instead of actively Desiring our debts, that everything will work itself out in the end.

If we had a functioning government that actually gave a shit about criminal justice and stamping out corruption, they would have slapped the cuffs on Donald Trump on January 6th, and his public hanging would have been a ratings extravaganza.

I am not advocating for violence against Donald trump, I merely stating that our constitution says that if a president refuses to give up power or behaves in a treasonous manner, hanging is how you deal with that.
