How’s the transportation situation? I hear there’s bus operator fight.

Yeah, I heard that too, but we're out of the area now. Agua Calientes is the only town close to Machu Picchu. That's where all the hotels and restaurants are. Whether hiking the Inca trail, or taking the train in, you stay in Agua Calientes. It's about 400 meters altitude difference in a steep climb from Agua Calientes to Machu Picchu. The buses whisk you up and down the hairpin road with efficiency. The only other way is to hike up. About the only thing you can do (other than hike it) is to watch the news and try and hit a trouble-free time.
