Windows was fine.

It's become a nightmare for casual users in many aspects. Even without advocating for Linux, saying the current Windows is "fine" is very far from the truth.

Yeah. I used to really like Windows, you know. XP was great. Then it started going downhill.

Lot of folks on this website upset because others don't use what they want them to use.

i'm upset we have an effective monopoly from a us corporation that is now screenshoting everything you do on your pc, just made millions of machines obsolete, and makes their product worse with every iteration. and ads.

Yeah. My problems with Windows are ideological and geopolitical, not just technical. I am a communist outside the US but still in their sphere of influence. To use a piece of known spyware made by a US company on a device I use to connect to the Internet and talk to other leftists, and to do my hobbyist fiction writing with a leftist bent, is a terrible idea. So I refuse to do so. Plenty of better and safer options that also respect me as the only user and system administrator far more. Do I think I'm important enough for personal opsec to matter? Of course not. Am I going to take reasonable precautions anyway, especially ones that cost me nothing/are good excuses for generally better habits I was going to strive for anyway? Of course I am.
