I think part of the point isn't so much to dunk on these dudes specifically (although they're not great people for choosing to actually go so I don't feel bad for them) but rather to point out that not even a week ago Hegseth was yapping about the "ideal soldier" to a room full of men who are way more knowledgeable and qualified than he is. Meanwhile the only folks that seem to wanna actually do this shit in Chicago are less than ideal specimens by Hegseth own fucked standards.
You don't get to choose where you go when you're a member of the military.
But you absolutely can refuse to follow unlawful orders and these fucks got orders to deploy against Americans and opted to go along with it. That's treason.
These National Guard may not be villains (yet) but they certainly aren't 'heroes' like members of the military like to be portrayed. They absolutely could stand on principal and refuse deployment. They would face a court martial but heroes do what is right regardless of the potential consequences.
If they follow their deployment, then they have the opportunity to refuse unlawful orders. Or even just do a shit job at following them "Sorry sarg, couldn't find any brown people today. Looked everywhere."
Refusing to go at all just ensures that people who don't object to the orders are the ones who go.
