This is such a bullshit take. "Oh sure, American cops are brutalizing children now but did you know they also brutalized children before? Oh you didn't? Oh, you aren't completely numb to the encroaching totalitarianism of the American empire? You know it's been happening for decades, right? Why bother being upset about it now when you should have been upset about it in the '70s? and by '70s I mean the 1770s lmao"
Seriously STFU with this. We know it's been happening. The problem is that it's still happening, and as long as it is happening it's newsworthy.
I bet these specific kidnapped children would take issue with your characterization. This is brand new. It just happened. The narrative may be similar to past events, and it’s definitely some believably awful American bullshit, but let’s show some empathy for the specific victims of state violence, while also criticizing the state for committing said violence. Dismissing the news as just more of the same only normalizes this kind of violence, even if that’s not your intention.
