Fort Henry Historical Site

Kingston, ON

Flickr Album

On the banks of the St Lawrence river lies Fort Henry, built by the British for the War of 1812 due to its strategic location. It has been restored and houses tours, with a large amount of people re-enacting the various lives one might be expected to see during the era. Views of modern day Kingston.

Kingston, as seen from the courtyard in Fort Henry.

A Multi-family Soldier's quarters. Multi-family rooms that would have their areas sectioned off by the hanging curtains. A soldier's wife may be seen sewing on one of the beds, untroubled by the time travelers speaking as if she weren't there.

A silk map of the world from the early 1800s. Notable is that Great Britain is on both sides of the map, as 'the world begins and ends with England."

Yeah, the downtown was a cool mix of old and new (although driving a transit van through it was less than enjoyable haha). Probably won't end up posting it, but the geology museum at the university (5th largest uni in Canada I believe) was pretty cool as well.
