After the suspected shooter has been detained, the FBI held a press conference to report on the case and announce the next steps going forward. Spoiler: we, as leftists, are fucked.

Key points:

  • The shooter is Tyler Robinson of Utah.
  • His friend reported him to the FBI.
  • Tyler's Discord messages have been used as evidence, as provided by his roommate.
  • ~~Robinson has been reported to be getting increasingly political, and during dinner one day, he spoke about how Kirk was "full of hate".~~ UPDATE 4: Tyler did not say that.
  • The casings do not contain any trans references. But they do have anti-fascist rhetoric (bella ciao and "notices bulges OwO" included) and symbols engraved in them.
  • Tyler was taken into custody on September 11th, 10 PM local time.
  • The investigation is still ongoing.
  • One guy cried while speaking.
  • Thousands of more leads of potential accomplices are being followed.
  • No other arrests are known
  • Tyler drove to campus on a car.
  • It's not known if Tyler is mentally ill.
  • The charging documents will be filed 3 days from now (September 16), then a preliminary hearing will take place.

(Added by LangleyDominos)

  • Patel awkwardly trying to signal the Norse viking larp shit. "Charlie, I'll see you in Valhalla"
  • Utah Governor Cox told everyone to log off and stop consuming rage bait, called social media a cancer, and that everyone should "touch grass" (his actual words).

I mean Bella ciao is an antifascist song

it's trying to be co-opted by groypers to mock the left (i wrote "was" an antifa song, that's not accurate as all my euro comrades keep informing me)

edit: the song is on the groyper war playlist #14. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0ais7KJXx8Gyd0hsrbakKW

"groyper war" is literally nick fuentes terminology for war on conservatives

Bella ciao is such a cool song with a great history. Depressing if groypers are trying to co opt it now. Thank god I have never run across that in the wild though, I’ve only ever seen it in legitimately antifascist contrxts

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

It got netflixifed and so kinda depolticialized. Its something more vaguely leftish/radlib now.

[–] TrueStalinistPatriot@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's why you keep the last verse from the Communist version https://youtu.be/cUAP-fE81zs

Fascists can take Bella ciao from my cold dead hands

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 30 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I can attest that I've heard this song a bunch of times, especially online, in contexts that have nothing to do with Groypers and are genuinely anti-fascist.

[–] frogbellyratbone_@hexbear.net 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

i can attest the complete opposite: only heard it through groypers <3

well, i heard it on money heist as well. so my above statement is not completely accurate

this kid was a groyper 100%. watching the Trump conf right now and he's dodging questions about the kid's ideology

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago

They will take Bella Ciao from my cold dead hands.

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's a new far-right GenZ thing, the young gropyers are using it widely as an ironic meme

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago

That's wild, I've hummed bella ciao in public kinda recently. Gonna have to switch to bandiera rossa.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago

i feel like there are a bunch of niche ideologies on the interwebs these days and it is kind of hard to pay attention to all the tendancies on the right

ciao belle user is a nick fluentes fan and has chosen their name which suggests there is some legitimacy to this theory

Humans really messed up when we came up with symbols that could mean the opposite of themselves.

hegel-kraken

Inflammable means flammable? What a country

[–] MohammedTheCommunistPalestinian@hexbear.net 26 points 2 days ago (4 children)

was You are being way too online

go to any person in the world and ask them about the song and they will know it's anti fascist

[–] frogbellyratbone_@hexbear.net 25 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

to be fair, go to any person IRL (i'm usa) and they won't know shit

you're correct though. "was" isn't fair. genZ groypers are "trying" to co-opt it.

[–] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I would bet money that anyone I walked up to on the street would have no idea what I'm talking about

[–] MohammedTheCommunistPalestinian@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

in that case

Americans are more cooked than I ever thought bro

[–] ProletarianDictator@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Idk how you end up here and have that high of an expectation for Americans.

[–] MohammedTheCommunistPalestinian@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

knowing Bella Ciao is not a high expectation bro

For Americans it is. If you asked the average American what Bella Ciao is, the top answer would probably be a dish at Olive Garden.

[–] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'd wager if you ask most people under the age of 50, they'll think it's from the Netflix series "Money Heist" .at least in Europe.

[–] emdash@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I don't even know what song people are talking about, and I don't think anyone I know would know either...

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

It's a song that dates back to Italian partisans fighting to topple the fascist Italian Social Republic. The melody is repeating fragments and a refrain, suspenseful and dramatic. The lyrics are of a partisan preparing for a battle or sabotage, knowing they will likely sacrifice themself for the cause, and addressing their lover (or trusted female comrade) for the last time to tell her their last wishes, broken up by "Bye, my lovely, bye, my lovely, bye, bye, bye". "O partisan, hold my life... I can feel that death is near... If I should die... Then you must bury me... And plant a flower... Upon my grave... And name that flower 'Freedom'... That all will see its beauty".

Bella Ciao is one of the most well-known protest songs around the world. Not knowing it is on the same level as not knowing, idk, Which Side Are You On, or The Battle Hymn Of The Republic. Leftists have been using it continuously for 80 years, and we're not about to stop. Not to mention that afaik, the casing has "ciao" 4 times instead of 3".

[–] emdash@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have been going to protests for decades and have never heard it. I don't think it's as widespread as you are assuming.

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've seen videos of protests in England that featured it, my Iranian friend showed me student protest footage that had it, and I've heard it in person. In this thread you have both an American and a Palestinian who are surprised that you weren't familiar with an Italian song. That should say something.

[–] emdash@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There are many more places in the world than just the ones you listed. Please stop trying to shame me for something so trivial that is not even my fault. I cannot control what culture does or does not make its way into local consciousness.

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

I'm not trying to shame you or fault you or anything. Certainly, there is no universal cultural context, even among leftists. I just find it remarkable.

[–] Chapo_is_Red@hexbear.net 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

was. it got co-opted by groypers to mock the left

Never have encountered this, I believe you but we regularly have it at my irl socialist meetings

[–] Clippy@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

the song is on the groyper war playlist #14.
