MODERATORS

Well the crackdown of leftist spaces on Reddit continues.

Cheer for the deaths of Palestinian children? -> Well that is just their opinion and we accept all on reddit-logo.

Cheer for the operation no_of_fascists_in_world -= 1? -> You leftist are disgusting for cheering for PoLiTiCaL vIoLeNcE

I hope some people from reddit make it to here or to lemmygrad.ml, in my eyes they are welcome here Care-Comrade

oh alrighty, good to know :]

[–] zipper@hexbear.net 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

wonder what the next name'll be. hopefully the sectarianism isn't too bad here, so far things are looking pretty neat! :D

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 28 points 3 days ago (1 children)

We try to keep the anarchism-communism slapfighting to a minimum and intra-ideology slapfighting on the hush-hush. The most you'd have to worry about is the site-wide wildfire arguments over the most random things such as stacking rocks or the morality of indoor cats vs outdoor cats.

[–] zipper@hexbear.net 21 points 3 days ago (2 children)

oh damn, seems like i'm in luck. i have a LOT of strong feelings about outdoor cats (those fuckin bird-killers). looks like i'll like it here :)

[–] BountifulEggnog@hexbear.net 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Thank god, the new comrades have good opinions

[–] zipper@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

for every cat let outdoors i build another bird feeder

[–] MemesAreTheory@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Good. Outdoor cats are hungry bois, so they need all the bait feeders they can get.

[–] zipper@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

outdoor cats are spawns of satan, birds are way cooler anyways. cat v hawk the hawk wins no diff

[–] MemesAreTheory@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If you're pulling hawks into this fight I'm bringing a Liger. It's pretty much my favorite animal.

[–] zipper@hexbear.net 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

yk what i'm bringing out the andean condor for attack and the bearded vulture for cleanup duty. fuckem up my goats

[–] zipper@hexbear.net 12 points 3 days ago

Welcome to the fedieverse! I'm kinda jealous that your Cakeday is 9/11

You're just in time for the yearly national-mourning-period celebrations, and the yearly Salvador Allende mourning, though another funny thing overshadows them this year. Feel free to ask questions about the Fediverse. Hexbear is mainly federated with lemmygrad.ml and lemmy.ml, that means the reach/amount of content is not too big here. There are a lot of instances that have defederated us or we defederated them, mostly due to being shitlibs.

[–] zipper@hexbear.net 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

man, today sure is chaotic, innit? i'm grateful for the warm welcome, means a lot :3

first impressions are pretty great, although my main concern is how echochamber-y this place might be. probably not any worse than reddit, although who knows. i'm curious if there's any specific place on here for book recs/ community organizing tips?

[–] SummerIsTooWarm@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Well, echochambers will arise in most forms of social media, though we have struggle sessions here. Sometimes about important things sometimes about less important things shrug-outta-hecks

There is a very nice post about theory recommendations by @Cowbee@hexbear.net.

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Thanks for the shoutout comrade! fidel-salute-big

@zipper@hexbear.net I've argued that it's pretty impossible to create a true echo-chamber for leftists in the english-speaking internet. The overwhelming majority of us can't actually avoid engaging with liberalism in our day-to-day lives, so shutting out reactionaries from our spaces doesn't actually risk anything of value. In fact, it protects our marginalized comrades! We aren't perfect, but Hex is one of the best online communities I interact with, no question!

As for my theory list, it's my personal list. It's an ML list with a heavy dose of Red Sails influence. I think that's a pretty common position around here, but we also have anarchists and other forms of Marxists!

[–] zipper@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

i think that's a fair point to make. i've had enough experience with twitter to know how quickly propaganda can spread, especially in a community where political takes are rarely if ever contested. which is why i've been a bit iffy initially to moving to a platform where only one side of the political aisle can participate, thinking that it would turn me into one of those 4chan nuts who seem to get off to the most brain-dead, asinine takes ever conceived. but what the american dems taught me is that constantly trying to hear neocons out and compromising at every turn is a futile endeavor, and developing your own ideological framework among people with similar values is the only thing that brings about actual results.

i'm still familiarizing myself with political thought (and not just political social media slop) so i'm cautious of the things i read online/ the communities i participate in. the last thing i wanna become is a liberal who thinks that writing clever posters to take to their cop-permitted midday hangout and having flags in their bio constitutes as "resistance". barf. this place is pretty small and it seems like most people here are familiar with one another. i like that. maybe i might even start a community organizing 101 type of thing. lefties really need to learn how to get together.

hope everyone reading this has a day full of joy and whimsy <3

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sounds cool! A lot of us are in orgs like PSL or others, we absolutely push getting organized!

[–] zipper@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

down here in aus, our leftist scene is bleak at best. i guess we've got the socialist party but by some accounts they're a bit cultish on the inside (think ACP). my city in particular sucks bootycheeks when it comes to anything left-wing related so if i want anything to happen i've gotta do it myself. wish me luck i s'pose :P

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago

Good luck comrade rat-salute-2

[–] zipper@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago

here is a post with all hexbear comms, also you can search for the comms of other instances on the search bar or selecting All in the main page brigading

[–] zipper@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

oh jeez, seems like i'm a bit late; they're on volume 3 already. i'll try catching up, thank you for your help :]

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I'm still catching up to volume 3 and I'm leading the group, it's okay lol. The major utility is moreso in looking at threads from last year or earlier this year and seeing what people thought about the chapters for that week.
