"My dad should magically make himself available and unfuck the situation I've created". Well, no. At least call mom first and own the problem.
I'm sorry your dad taught you that this was appropriate. That sounds rough..
While I'm sure you appreciate the "lessons in Independence" that you learned, there are ways to learn those lessons without being effectively abandoned. I wouldn't recommend applying that approach with any kids you eventually have.
Oh, I have two independent kids, and we're good.
Correct
A child who drives, nice. It looks like it is an adult. And he's saying that he's fine, so from now it's an economical, not a life-saving problem.
"Dad is fishing" sounds like he's more "remote" himself
"Child" can be a synonym of "offspring" regardless of age.
Well the child will definitely not feed the family
Cannibalism is generally frowned upon in civilized society.
Oh live a little
People are not made of cheese.
YOU CAN'T PROVE THAT
I mean
Maybe mom is at work, we don't know. What we do know is that dad is fishing
Yeah, we know that he's away (I'd assume he's not fishing from his backyard, then he is definitely the asshole).
I got heavily downvoted, but just to collect the facts and assumptions:
Summarizing all that, I don't see how mom is out of the picture where she has one more reason to know about the situation, and how the adult offspring didn't leave home in a taxi.
Do you tend to write down a list of bullet points every time a loved one needs help?
I tend to write a list of bullet points whenever I think, and it's a good thing. Also, I got no one to save now.
"Child" includes some years where they can drive.
Being an adult doesn't mean you will never need help from your parents again.
If mom is at work, why is leaving work the preferable option to dad leaving fishing? That also doesn't mean she hasn't been told.
They're driving their mom's car, they obviously are still living at home and probably don't have a ton of money for a taxi, especially since dad could just stop fishing and come pick them up.
Married couples are usually both owners of their vehicles and on the same insurance plans, so dad could most likely handle insurance and accident related things.
I love how much you over analyze this st*pid meme so upvotes from me.
Still, and just for the sake of argument, your elaboration would justify the following responses: (note that this list is not exhaustive)
While this list is far from exhaustive, consciously not included is muting the conversion and shutting their child off. The point of the meme is that dad ignores child instead of helping or supporting them in any way.
And to finally enter the meta level: I don't think this is real. I think it's photoshoped or something, doesn't look like AI but more likely than not it's fake
I'm sick at home so I don't have much to do :)
And Shitpost is one of the places on Lemmy which make surprisingly more sense.
On subject: A better answer from the dad - yes, completely justified.
I wish you feel better soon and I wish your dad won't abandon you when you need him most!
You don't know that the kid hasn't already told the mom about the accident. It's not like she can come pick the kid up, it was her car that was crashed. Relying on a parent and asking them for help in a time of need doesn't mean the kid isn't also going to take responsibility. But the parent saying that fishing is more important is absolutely ludicrous. Sure, maybe the dad is too far away to be able to help at the moment, but he said he's too busy to even talk (yet not busy enough to prevent sending those texts).
You don’t need ludicrous you need Jake from State Farm
Yes actually. You made that mess, you clean it up! (Or pick it up from the side of the road after a car crash)
