Assuming it's not just an act because he doesn't think he could win another election if he openly supported Trump.

Call snap election with people cheering him on.

Get reelected based on hopes vs reality.

I mean, it's a given that a politician is politicking. But, his record of getting along with the federal government makes me think that he probably means it, even if he's shit on plenty of other issues.
